My dad and I are starting yet another resto project
New pictures added to last post
For those of you who didn't know, we sold the '89 IROC-Z that my dad and I restored. It was the red one in my sig if you don't recall it. Anyways, it's gone, and tonight I had a special suprise awaiting me in my driveway when I got home from work tonight!
Looks like we're starting Father/Son resto II
It's a 1990 blue IROC-Z, hardtop, 5spd. And she's in decent shape all things considered. But since I got home at 10pm, the pictures are teh crap, so I'll make sure to take some in the daylight tomorrow or later this week. I'll use this thread as the one and only thread to update on the car's progress as things happen.

That IROC was a beautiful car, shame y'all sold it (how much did you get for it BTW?).
Looks like a good project car, I'd love to do something like that with my dad. You should get all the 91-92 upgrades and the same wheels as your vert and have twins!

And I doubt we mod this one at ALL. Probably keep the stock rims and everything, it's a 1990

Forgot about this picture that was taken the day we first saw the car. Figured I'd post it since it's not nighttime in this one

Yes, keeping it blue, keeping the original colored stripes/decals, possibly the stock wheels as well.
I will keep this thread updated as it goes along
...And yes lots of pics, even though some people here have a problem with that

yes a '90 IROC is a rare beast indeed.. I know I'm currently in negotiations for trading my '88 for a '90 IROC. Good luck with the project!

bleh, its not even the 90...
I just cant seem to find a decent Blue 5spd Hardtop.
Ive been looking for 2 years and havent found anything yet
I found a 305 Auto last year, but passed on it.
If you change your mind or find another one that meets the above criteria, let me know.

It was the day before the kid came to pick up the '89 to drive it home as his own, and I wanted to keep my stock '91 alloys and use them as a winter set. (they were on the '89 and the kid didn't like the gold stock IROC wheels) So there is this guy who lives about a mile from my house who's yard has become known as the 3rd gen boneyard, because all he does is buy old 3rd gens and part them out. Sometimes he gets ahold of some solid cars that he sells whole. Well we went over to his place to try and find another set of '91 alloys to let the kid know how expensive they are in case he wanted to buy some after he got the car. Well we were telling this guy how the '89 was practically sold and how we were looking at a 1986 IROC-Z down the street that was a blue t top/305carb car. I told him I hate the carb motors, and he said he had a few cars for sale. A white '91 Z28 hardtop 305, another '91 Z28 that was in pieces, and this blue IROC-Z. As soon as I saw the '90 my jaw dropped
I told my dad to forget every 3rd gen we had been looking at and focus on this one because A) it's gonna be worth more and B) it won't take very long to get it to look good, and besides it's a 5spd
So the kid came to buy the '89 and then the next day my dad went and drove this car and fell in love with it. And then I come home from work one night and BOOM there it was!

It is in pretty decent shape. I forget what he wanted for it though. And it's a 305TPI (at least that's what he told me) and it has red interior
This is the only picture I have of it. The red car on the very far right is the one we sold

Well we got it back from the upholsetery shop today.
It now has:
new headliner, new dash, new driver seat cloth, (4) Infinity speakers, and has been steem cleaned.
I'll take pictures of the interior tomorrow when it's light outside.
And I forgot to mention, it's a G92 car

Ight so we got the car back from the upholstery shop. It now has:
new headliner, new driver seat cloth, new dash, (4) Infinity speakers, and the carpet and seats have been steam cleaned. So as of right now the interior is 99% completed except for we need to get a set of IROC-Z floor mats and it's in dire need of a CD player and some subs and an amp
I don't know if I mentioned this earler but it IS a G92 car, with the performance rear axle, and a 140mph speedo!
Here's some better pictures that WEREN'T taken at 10pm lol

Jeremy, I thought for sure you'd seen this post earlier!
Lets see, other options:
power driver seat
power windows
power locks
rear defrost
tilt
cruise
I'll have to check and see if the G92 cars came with an oil cooler, cuz I'm not really sure. I'll also try and get a picture of the RPO sheet tomorrow because I can't think of all the options that are on it

Options are good! My car came with few options, but I'm taking care of that. I also just bought a disk rear end today from a junk yard (first real "performance" part!).

I need to get a disc brake rear end for my vert someday....SOMEDAY
I think I'll probably end up with a 3.23 rear end from a 4th gen, seems like the prime gear ratio for TPI
Anyways, about that RPO code sticker, lemme go take a pic of it real quick. I'll post it to this message in a minute...
EDIT* here's the picture. I took like 15 different pictures of that freakin' sticker and this was the only semi-decent one that turned out. Maybe I shouldn't be taking them at night lol. I accidentally cut off a whole column of codes, so I'll try and get a better one tomorrow.

That's got a list there! I think mine only has 2 or 3 rows.
So far I've found out that the one I bought should be a 3.73 ratio. I need to find out what's in my car now too.

The other two cars as in, the white hardtop '91 Z28 and the red Z28 with the black stripes? Well the red one with the stripes is HIS car and it's not for sale. But the white one IS for sale, and I forget how much he wanted for it. I could PM you his cell phone # if you were interested in it. I think he said it's a 305 car, and it's got red interior

Seeing all the cars your guys go through is making me even more jealous. My dad and I have had his 88 Iroc. vert in pieces for the past 2 years getting a new paint job. Unfortunately college keeps me away from home, and my dad paying for my college is keeping him out of the garage. Not to mention our other toys needing occasional attention. Im hoping for next summer to get it all done. I striped the whole thing over spring break, and he's doing the body work whenver he gets the chance. Over next summer it'll be getting new door hinges, possibly new floor pans, and new interior.

Gotta keep at it man
The only reason we are fortunate enough to finish our projects so quickly is:
A) my dad owns a painting contracting company, so he not only knows how to paint and has the supplies to do so, he also never goes out of town for business
B) I go to college about 10 miles from my house and I don't have to live in a dorm, so I'm home alot
C) We have a basement garage that is underneath the upstairs garage so this winter when it gets cold out we will use it to finish up the car and keep a heater down there.

im jelous of this "2 story" garage you have...my garage is more of a large shed like thing that barely fits my 84 firebird with the interior peices stripped and strewn about the garage, with some shelves and other odds and ends about...and thats about it...
one day, i hope to have a house, with a garage bigger then the house lol. call me crazy...
but thats what i want.

but thats what i want. It's not really a "2 story" garage. The basement garage is more of a workshop area where my dad stores all of his painting supplies, I store my extra set of wheels down there and small odds and ends that take up the majority of the space down there. It's possible to store a car in there if we move things around...it has a double-door type thing so you can fit a car thru it. There's no garage door on it.

UPDATE!
Here's the update. We got a few things tweaked on the car, like new plugs and wires, and coil, and we also had the flywheel resurfaced because that wasn't done when the new clutch was put in.
Today we stripped the hood to bare metal and got it in primer, although these are the only pictures I have from today. I love aircraft stripper, look at the paint that came off the hood
