I have a problem....

I drove through some white paint that was on the ground in parking lot of my apartment complex and it splattered up onto the front fender and rear quarter panel on the passenger side of my GTA. It didn't just splatter, it left 2 6 to 12 inch long lines of paint on the front fender and spots all over the quarter panel! It's been there for about a month now and I'm about to do my spring wax job.

What's the best solvent/cleaner/method etc. to remove this stuff??? It appears to be oil based and it's pretty thick. My paint is 2 stage so it does have a clearcoat.

Thanks in advance!

best bet would be take it to a local body shop and ask them they will know the best!! and then think about it.. maybe they will even take it off for a cheap price. just confess how much you love your car and try to make a deal! always works for me

Uh why would you leave it there for a month?!. I would try a claybar and maybe some of the 3M products like the swirl remover.

man i hope it isn't the paint that they use to make parking and street line, once that stuff dries it's nearly impossible to get off without ruining your paint in someway, I tried every chemical known on my last ride and it wouldn't come off!! I wish you luck

Well I don't think it's the stuff they use to paint the street. The reason I left it there is I was planning on having a body shop do it when I got my tax return but I ended up getting a new computer and paying off bils so now I'm broke and have to do it my self.

What about paint thinner? I do have a clearcoat so that shouldn't hurt it any right?? I'll see if I can get a clay bar...

Try a cutting compound like "T-Cut" - see if that works. Takes a lot of time though but gives a good finish. Mind you I've never tried it on a car splattered with that amount of paint before.

I run into this problem ALL THE TIME with cars I work on. USE:

1. CLAY BAR. Since it is still kinda fresh it should come off with this.

2. 3M Swirl Mark Remover or something else with a very mild abrasive, if the clay doesnt totally work.

3. 3M Rubbing Compound if all else fails. Be careful with this, only use as much as you have to to phase the white paint.

4. After the white paint is removed, wash the car with DAWN to get all the crap, old wax, and 3M residue off. Clay Bar the car too so the wax will stick to the paint for a while, not to the contaminants on the paint :P

Good Luck, post if you have any more questions! Paint is not hard to remove if you have the right products.

Paint thinner might also work. Once again, use just enough to try it out, then if it doesnt hurt the clear (it shouldnt) then go for it if it works.

Why don't you do the most obvious thing first and use a stage 1 remover or clear coat scrub my Meguires. Always start off with the LEAST abrasive stuff and work you way up. If that doesnt work try a little rubbing compound in
water... Goof off has worked for me as well.

You have to be out of your mind to use paint thinner on your car. It wasn't a good idea letting it sit there for a month before attempting to remove it. You should of immediately attempted to remove it.
