convert from 84 sport coupe to 90s z28
Hi guys,
Well I have a 84 sport coupe 305. And I want to put the 90-92 Z28 ground effects. And Ive seen threads about putting the newer ground effects on 82-84 camaros. And I would like to know exactly what I need to get.
One big question that I had was, i know the camaros with ground effect have that front spoiler under the engine to divert air to the engine to cool it off, and with out it, it will over heat. I belive my car doesnt have that, or at least the same kind. Also how will my turn signal lights fit?
And I want the 90s Z28 ground effects, not the 85-89 o ground effect. I keep asking around school how much all the ground effects will cost from a junk yard will cost, but no one knows. Anyone have any idea how much everything i need will cost?
I ideally want to paint it all white again.
One reason i want to convert it is because some jackass hit my car when i was parked at walmart. i have to cops looking at the tapes, but i want to kill someone!
This is my camaro i want to put the ground effects on:

Re: convert from 84 sport coupe to 90s z28
hey there it ll be pretty easy to put newer gfx on ur car but u wont beable to reuse ur bumper turn signal light and for the side rocker molding there is a bracket that mounts to the side of the car just below the door to bolt the rocker molding to which u can grab off a car from the junkyard or maybe make ur own brackets, as for cost its all depends i guess on shape of the parts and where u go, i have a 82 z28 that im looking at putting the newer style ground effects and i found a guy selling everything i need for 700 bucks, but on year one site they go for like 1200-up just gotta shop around. good luck

Oh ya, when i went to school today my instructor saw my car when we where in lab, and he really liked it, and saw the spot where some jackass pulled a hit and run at walmart. so he got out his buffer and buffed out alot of the mark!

Is this the style you want?
Then you are gonna need:
85-92 Front bumper cover with grill and turn signals
91-92 Front chin spoiler
91-92 Pair Side rocker ground effects
91-92 Pair door insert ground effects
91-92 Rear bumper cover
91-92 Pair Rear Quarter ground effects
Prices would be a bit high for those parts, Front Bumper covers are around $85-$120, Chins are $95-$150, Rockers are $75-$100 each, Door ground effects are $35-$75 each, Rear Bumper cover $75-$125, and Quarter ground effects around $25-$60 each. So yea it will be a good chunk of change and thats not including shipping.
Where are you located? Oneida? I can help you out and get these things for cheap and probably all for under $200 if you are in Oneida IL.

Re: convert from 84 sport coupe to 90s z28
The ground effects are either 85-90 which is the ones without the air scoops. 91-92 is with them. Turn signals are different and come with the front end since its a new style from your 84. Also that damage does not look bad, Did you try giving it a good scrubbing and see if some if not all will come off? It seems like a very and is a very easy fix.

Yes that is the exact ground effects i want. lol no i lived in Oneida WI until i was 18, and now im living in so cal.
I dont have money now, if its not to bad of price i may be able to afford the gfx in october or maybe even december. but i need a job too lol.
Btw i buffed out like 98% of the damage, there is only 2 small spots where the paint of gone, i just never took a pic of it.

Its your car, do it if you want.
Alot of people do this and I like it. To me once you start upgrading the vehicle, it does not matter anymore if its a Z28, Iroc or RS.

thats because you ARE making it a different car, mind you, it's not like hes attempting to take his 84 rs and pawn it off as a z28, hes taking parts which are able to fit on his car and making it more visually appealing.

Label it as an RS. Rs is basically the SC. If you insist in filling in the gap, just use a fiberglass repair kit to do it.

I looked and found all the emblems at Hawks . Only one set of RS and they are Gold on eBay . You can give them a call and ask for whatever your looking for. Here's the link to the RS.

and i kinda think making it look like there was never a logo there is kinda unique. or a custom logo would be kool too. maybe a "SC" for sport coupe, or something else that ill think of later.

It will hold better, and also as for emblems, They made some that say ''Camaro'', try looking at the exterior for sale section and see if anyone has em for sale.

Hey man. Do what you like. It's not like your trying to pass it off for something that it's not. You just want it to be more visually appealing. I was in the same boat. I also have an '84sc camaro that the previous owner customized the front bumper and added Z/28 ground effects. I didn't like the custom sc bumper, so I just recently changed it to an '86 Iroc bumper. To me (once it's painted) it will look much better. Mine has NO Z/28 emblems on it. It may look like one, but it's not trying to be passed off as one.
Keep in mind that you don't have to buy everything at once, just get what you can afford and save the parts until you have the whole set and then have fun. Here's mine before and now.

...you really don't see many clean sport coupes, let alone an 82-84...
...that thing would look perfect with some clean white/black 5-spokes.
awesome car, as long as you keep the quality as it stands now, it'll look great no matter what.
jealous.

In case you were still wondering about the air deflector that mounts under the front of the car, yes you will need it. It's called an air dam and it mounts on the bottom of the radiator support its pretty vital that you have one of these because even with the grill you wont get enough air flow to the radiator. My friend has a 92 rs v6 that was overheating all the time at highway speed but not in town. Found an air dam bolted it on and the problem was solved.

I was never a fan of sport coupes until I saw mw66nova's car. I'm still not a fan, but that car is jaw-dropping. It's all about the stance. If it has the right stance any car can work. But he painted the vents and buckets black too which helps a lot to make it look pretty menacing.
Ive seen that car with multiple hoods, multiple wheels, with and without spoilers, etc... it just always looks good - it's clean, but he put a lot of time into getting it to looks right and it shows.

If you are still looking for some gfx, check with thirdgenranch.com. They have amazingly low prices and are supposed to be really pleasant to do bussiness with. I just purchased a set of the 85-90 gfx, which included both side rocker panels, both door pieces and both quarter panel pieces for a total of about $165, including shipping. Check with them, they might have some of the ones your looking for, though their inventory changes frequently so you'll have to check back often.

Re: convert from 84 sport coupe to 90s z28
I was never a fan of sport coupes until I saw mw66nova's car. I'm still not a fan, but that car is jaw-dropping. It's all about the stance. If it has the right stance any car can work. But he painted the vents and buckets black too which helps a lot to make it look pretty menacing.
Ive seen that car with multiple hoods, multiple wheels, with and without spoilers, etc... it just always looks good - it's clean, but he put a lot of time into getting it to looks right and it shows.

his car is impressive. Im not talking **** about his car, but for me...i dont like the headlight buckets painted black and the grill vents painted black on sport coupes. and i personally like the 82-84 SCs more than the later ones. but maybe its just cause i own an 84 lol
As far as stance, i do agree...to a point. One thing i like about my car is that the wheels are flush with the body. its helps ALOT imo. But it needs to be lowered lol.

Re: convert from 84 sport coupe to 90s z28
Yeah... its mine... It used to be my 6cyl daily driver that i went to college in oh so many years ago and now it is far from what it was.. it went from 6cyl auto to 377, 5spd and 3.42 posi rear... and of course the obvious things (i.e. 2 tone and cowl hood etc.) but i didnt do it alone .. I have to hand a special thanks to Jayz28 for all his help... AND CONVINCING ME TO REMAIN A SPORT COUPE!!..LOL There really arent many around my area that are worth a damn. For that matter there arent many around here period... Thanx for the genorous compliment.

Ground effects don't make the car faster. Most thirdgens have them, the lack of GFX is what makes the Sport Coupe unique. Adding GFX will just make the car look like every other boring RS. Stick with the stripper look and spend the money making the car faster.
