Most people start talking about MPG and mention their foreign make of car. Then I say yea its got a 350 and I get 29 on the highway - better than my wifes Camry. And my 78 K5 gets 25 mpg on the highway, too. (Cummins 4BT).

A couple of people stopped short of calling me a liar, so I stopped short of giving them a cussin'. And BTW, my car is paid for how much are you paying per month?

But you work on it all the time because its old! Yea, you are right, I raised the hood last month and added water to the windshield washer.

You have to have done some work if you have a 350 and a 5 speed.

Gonna have to call some BS 6 speed vetts don't hit 30 and all 3 of my camrys got over 30 highway.

The diesel is believable.

 

I have to agree with midias, 29 MPG is a little exaggerated. 350's, even with manual, don't normally get over maybe 20-ish MPG.

 

dont know how economical my car is but it should be better than before as i recently installed a t56 from 700r4 and 6th gear makes the car real quiet. but seeing how i have never driven a manual before my mpg isn't gonna be great for a while.

to the op's question i get asked if i would sell it or what i've done to it. i would never sell it and ive only done l98 350 swap, trans swap, ebl installed. i dont like when people brag about their cars (there are some people that take pride with what they do to their cars but dont go around saying there the fastest thing out there). always nice to see other thirdgens.

Haven't had much time to drive my bird yet to get any strange questions, but I do have one kind of a funny story.

I had just bought my T/A and decided to stop at a gas station to top up the tires for the drive home when two older gentlemen standing around the compressor having a drag came up to me and were almost physically drooling over it. The one guy was very knowledgeable about 3rd gens and apparently built a couple with his grandson so I didn't have any funny questions, but he asked me right away if it had the 350. I said yup and he said "good boy!" The problem was the valve stem caps were on so tight I was having a heck of a time getting them off. In the meantime the guy was going on and on about the car and how you don't see many of them on the road anymore and how nice it was. In the mean time I'm on my knees in the dirt with a vice grip giving it all I've got to get these caps off nodding and smiling. Guess he was too busy giving my car a once over to offer to help. lol

Nevertheless, it was cool to get such nice compliments the very first time I drove the car. haha

I don't know many running 2.77 gears with a 5 speed either (ESPECIALLY with a 6 speed.) Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not in the BS business. Two 300 mile trips avg 65 mph

Is it a 350? A lot of people are shocked that in 92 you could'nt get a 5 speed with a 350.

Funny thing. I was at a show a couple weekends ago. There were only two third gens there so I would have at least got runner up. Both cars completely stock. I did'nt get anything and when I asked the guy about it he said that the car did not fit the class. I was stumped. He said the spoiler and the rally stripes. I guess he did not know that the 91-92's had the tall spoiler and he did'nt know about the heritage package. If you are going to judge, know your cars or ask questions. It just ruins the credibility of the show. I'm no trophy hound but it happend to others at the show as well. Some did'nt take it as lightly as I did and demanded a plaque.

 

Yes I get a lot of "What engine is it?" I get the "BS" look sometimes when I say mine has a 350 with a 5-speed. Do people really think its hard to swap a 305 for a 350? Really? And if you keep your foot off the skinny pedal it will actually work fine for a long time. I can understand thinking its harder to swap a small block 400 for a 4 cyl cummins (even that is a no brainer) but a 305 to 350?

 

It says 5.7 on my power bulge hood of the my Formula & thet ask me if its a V8. So I say its a hybrid, it burns gas & rubber....

 

Apparantly everyone in Wisconsin thinks any camaro is a v6... Pulled into the gas station and two people one right after another asked if the thing is a v6, I said no, its a v8. He said he didn't believe me and I said wanna find out? He said sure, I started it up gave it one good rev and he said damn and drove off. For some reason people don't believe a 16 year old about what type of car they have now day's.. And I always have to answer when people ask me why I am driving daddy's car... I bought the car with my own damn hard earned money people! People are so jeleous..

I heard tht from my relatives almost everyday for the first 3 weeks i had mine. they didnt think the car would even make it home.(750 miles) its been proving them wrong from day one.

Ive gotten asked if I want to sell it. My answer was (and always will be) "No I just bought it."

But usually I just get thumbs ups, compliments from guys at drive thru windows, or Ill catch people rubbernecking or just staring at it. Not a day goes by anymore where someone doesn't do one of those I just mentioned. Its very easy to get used to.

 

Today....on the way to work I was sitting in traffic at a construction zone. The guy behind me actually got out of his car and asked me if he could take a couple pictures of my Camaro. I nodded and he walked around the car snapping photos with his I-Phone. I've heard about all the usual questions hundreds of times, but that was the first request for photos.....strange but true!!

daily drive it everywhere and yea it scrapes on a few but if you get used to driving a slammed car, you know where not to go and how to go around things.

Like speed bumps, i dont even attempt. I'll park farther and just walk instead of going over it . Dips are fine, just scrapes the air dam but the really steep drive ways, i sometimes scrape the front valence.

I have a 92 Firebird 3.1L. Constantly asked, "you like paying gas in that thing?" I have the occasional person tell me, "nice Trans Am."(I never correct them though ) I also get the engine size question a lot and when I tell them I'm building a 383 for it, putting a 6 speed in, and swapping the rear, they always say something like "Why do that, when you could buy a newer car?"(I hate that). My girlfriend always used to ask when it'll be done. I'm curious to see the questions I get when I get the other engine in.
