I take it that your IROC still has the factory paint due to the matching engine bay paint. What is the color code on it? Looks nice.

Still have the 10 bolt? nope put a dana 60 in it...wow you must have a lot of power. not too bad just dont want it to break..12 bolt would be fine,why the dana..lol i just sit in silence.

"is that some kind of 80's farrari?" or "is that all wheel drive?" haha

But most commonly is.. "is that your fathers car?" and when I reply no, I get the wide eyed look. Or the general " how fast is it???" or whenever I open my hood for people to see...I get asked..""isn't that empty space where your AC is supposed to be?" or some things around there

 

The funniest thing I have been asked, "Is that a 240z or 360z"? I said 240,360 whatever it takes.

I got that sort of reaction a few days ago, except it was in the Mustang. Dude was off to the side of a gas station by the air pumps, filling up his tires, and I usually like to give it some gas by this specific place because it echoes a lot. Almost dropped the air hose.

I've spent about $850 this year getting the exhaust right. Went from Flowmasters and a catted X to Flows and an offroad X, to Borla Stingers and an offroad X, to the current setup that I like more than anything else. Borla Stingers and a Magnaflow catted X.

I love that feeling! I commute to my college too, about a 12 mile drive each way. I love the looks I get driving it around campus. I've only seen one other third gen at school. Looked like an early 80's Camaro.

 

Which college? I've got the only third gen at Lewis University. (all the kids are super rich and have brand new camaros/mustangs) feels pretty good when they compliment my aging z.

 

Elmhurst College. I love the feeling of having earned this myself as compared to spoiled little kids. I always have to find corner spots away from the danger of door dings. Lol. Nice looking Z ya got there.

i hate all the "daddy bought it" cars at OUE new mustangs, no new camaros here, everyones dumb enough to beleive that there mustang gt vert is faster, a bunch of hummers and import suvs (which i hate) and all the cobalts in the world with go fast stripes and stickers, no there not the cobalt ss' either just regular cobalts too, and all the kids with little to no money (druggies stoners) have 4 cyl hondas that sound like **** and are beat to hell, but they still rev the nuts off of em in the lot, i idle louder than they rev love my exhaust, but i want a deeper louder tone and it to be more....."throaty" and to scream at high rpms

 

My flowmaster exhaust sounds good, very loud, deep sound.. The new mustang verts are probably faster than most of our cars stock, even the v6 mustangs.. They make 305HP and actually get 30mpg on top of that. But the cars are ugly and third gens are sexier by far, there's no doubt about that... With a few mods, some weight reduction, our cars can take them on.. They do the 1/4 mile in about 14 seconds flat so they are a force to be reckoned with.. My modded 305 with 3.73's gets about that same time, but it's a v8.. Goes to show how technology can really improve power.

 

my car is in my sig. , while getting gas one day a guy approachs me . he asks about my car , i tell him it's an R/S . (i have 88s/c emblems on my GFX that just say camaro) his response , i could tell it's not an IROC because it doesn't have ducts for brake cooling . (me silent) he proceed's to tell me about his 89 . he has a corvette servo (o.k.) , 350 eng. with a quadrajet . vette rear axle , vette this & vette that . takes off burns rubber for 45ft. in 1st , in 2nd another 25ft , 3rd 20ft , in 4th only about 5-10ft. . (no power brake) . i reply WOW you must really be a good mechanic and know camaro's . he tells me all his friends say he's the best . has had his car up to 165mph could have gone faster but his tires were 6-8 yrs. old . then tells me about his interior , coffin handles for armrests , real leather suede headliner , real leather seats , etc. ,etc. . oh , almost forgot a sound system so strong that he can only turn up to 1/2 volume because it's so powerful . (i was going to give him one of or club's card's) i did not . this 50yr. old r3dn3ck get's in his POS toyota P/U (rattle can camo) with muffler hanging down from coat hanger and leaves . the whole time i just smiled & nodded . maybe i should have got his # for 'EXPERT' advice , NOT!!!!!!!!!! .

When I purchased my vert 12 years ago I had my 67 Vette on the trailer, he has a storage building that is 60x30 temp controlled. So I store my car there, we are in a gas station and there is a group of imports hanging out. He is bringing the 91 Z around and I am topping off the tank in the Vette. I unstrap it start it and back it off the trailer to pull it up to the pump, Two or three walk up and ask what is a 427? I am like really? I tell them its an iconic american big block, one actually asks whats a big block? I go in get a Dew and come out and my brother is putting the Z on the trailer, kid says you tradded for that, good deal. I wanted to throw up, this was heavy in the Fast an Furious days, we are strapping the Z down and they are looking at the vette, he asks how many liters in a 427? I say I am not sure (now I am getting annoyed) the one kid says my Civic has a worked 1.5 liter, I say congradulations your motor is just a little bigger than my Mountain Dew.

When I first got my GTA in '99, 4th Gen F-bodies never gave it a second look in traffic. I was pretty ticked. Then I got my 2001 T/A, and well, IT didn't get a second look from the other new F-bodies either. I guess in a larger city, it's normal to have people driving cool cars that either aren't very observant or are just not really into their car.

When my neighbor saw my GTA for the first time, he was flabbergasted. I could tell he was sincerely stunned. He asked what kind of car it was. He honestly thought it was some new sports car he had not yet seen before.

As for the question I get the most? For a freaking FLAME RED GTA, I get asked, "That's one of them there turbo cars, ain't it???" I just say, "No, those were all white."

Best question ever? It's a Canadian export model, so it has the metric gauge cluster (kmph, eh?). In the staging lanes at test-n-tune many years ago a guy's eyes bugged out when he looked at the gauges. "It'll do Two Twenny???" I couldn't help it. I said, "YUP."

Where I live (south of St. Louis) the car is almost as rare as a bald cat. I get the usual How fast? what motor? why automatic? and then i get cool color who repainted it (original Mystic Teal). I do wanna ask why camaros of any sort new to old never run together? I am constantly harrased by gangs of those queer fox boxes and other ponys. i get similar treatment by newer T/As? JW but i like what the guy above said about guys waving and running together. Lets us thirdgen guys and any gen for that matter stick together.

 

All the F-body guys around me hang together. You'll see us at most of the car shows parked together. Currently it's just 3rd 4th and 5th gens. We chase the mustang club out lol.

 

I haven't read all 15 pages, but I'm assuming the questions I'm asked are probably variants of the most popular question that most of us have been asked:

"Is it for sale?" / "Interested in selling it?"

Of course, it's never asked by anyone with MONEY lol... not that I'd consider it anyway.

I can understand when Firebird's (and maybe even Camaro's) are called Ferrari's because these cars are fairly unique and, here in middle Georgia, and among other places they are quite rare. There are plenty scattered around the state, but they have either not been taken care of, are missing engine/trans, or have been dogged by some punk. There are a few occasions when someone has taken decent care of it, (though not like WE would) but he has dropped some other crappy engine or transmission in it. Hard to find original engine/trans combos in even close to running condition.

Since I have IROC Z stitched into my head rests and there is a local night club called "The IROC"

I normally get asked by 16-19 year old girls if I own the IROC at first I didnt know what was going on when I answered yes and then I got swarmed by young women wanting to go for a ride. Once I figured out what the deal was... I started asking if they meant the club or the car.... Now I just say yep and ignore the attention lol!!! At first I was like... ummm whats up with all these young hot chicks being all interested in my car!!! Once they realized I wasnt the owner of the club, nor had any money, they moved on hahaha but every summer with a new class of University students early summer is popular for my car hahah!!!!

 

Lol. Money sure is a huge thing for teenage girls. No one in history has spoken as profoundly or gotten someone as much attention as currency has over the years.
