Re: Slammed Third Gens - Post Pics

So I threw on some GTA wheels with stock sized 245/50/16 tires. Tire pressures at 40psi. Turns out my car is lower than I though. Dead nuts even at 24".

So, who's gonna grow a pair and try to dip into the 23" range?

Re: Slammed Third Gens - Post Pics

Put a set of stock height tires on it and see where you are, your tires aren't even 24" tall and stock.p is 25.7. Your not as low as you think. (Suspension wise). I noticed my firestone tires are only 24.5" tall even.though they are 245/50/16 as well. I understand that with the tall sidewall and airpressures the tire will buldg at the bottom.from.weight, but that's a lot.

I like how your car looks with the gta wheels

Thanks for the compliments everyone! It's a good feeling when people say good things about your car! Yeah it took almost 2 years to get her like I wanted. Yes it is a 3 stage candy apple red paint job. If you think the pics are sweet....you should see it pop in the sunlight!
Yeah the shaved handles and taking off the side moldings really cleaned things up.
Thx again all!!!

For reference, my Goodyear GS-D3 tires 245/50/16 are about 24.5" installed in the back and 24.25" tall installed in the front due to the weight differences on the tire. I have some pictures back on page 2.

What is your plan for the radiator air dam? On my car, it scrapes at 23.25". No way you are going to be able to ride like that.

A 3rd gen just doesn't look good with anything less than a 25" tire

I think he was referring to the fender height at 23" rather than the tire height. I think with proper sized tires those wheels could actually look pretty cool in an 80's kind of way.

Hard to say. But trimming an inch means you are going to be scraping everywhere. You'd probably have to trim near 2" to be able to drive it. I would imagine trimming it 2" will cause serious cooling issues. On top of that, at 23" you'd have to make a skid plate for the oil pan and trans pan as you'd be sure to scrape it at some point.

question for you....im thinking that trimming the air dam could be done...here's why im thinking this....as we lower our cars the ground clearance gets smaller thus channelling more air towards the radiator and less under the dam. if you trim an inch (maybe 2) it would seem to me, since its so low, that there would still be more airflow than if it were at stock hieght.

yes if it were raised back to stock ride, it would have to be replaced.

another question...if our electric fans ran all the time and we trimmed the dam, it seems to me it wouldnt ever overheat.

These were my thoughts exactly. I'm planning on running the fan to a switch inside the car so I can turn it on earlier, as well as a lower temp thermostat to allow it to cool off earlier before it gets too hot.

on the switch...make sure it is the highest amp switch you can find. like 30A or 40A or more. the fan will cause a weak switch to melt over time. i have heard of people wiring into their wiper motor on an s10. this made their fan run when the ignition was on.....do this at your own risk. i had a switch for my electric fan on my s10 that was done by the previous owner and sometimes i would forget to turn it on....and sometimes i would forget to turn it off if i parked in a loud area where i didnt hear it running after i walked away. had to jump it off later that night

Re: Slammed Third Gens - Post Pics

wire it up with a 35a bosh relay. This way the relay is taking the load and your "SWITCH" is only to supply power to the relay.

Better yet just get a fan switch that screws in place of the stock one to come on sooner.

Even better get your ecm programmed so the fans come on and off at the temps you want.

back on topic. I want to get a weight jack setup and drop mine more. Im on cut springs now.

it does look great but it will never be able to get over a speed bump.my subframe connecters already drag on some speed bumps at stock height.

Wow your subframe connectors drag at stock height if you have Alston then I can see why but that's a maybe because I have no issues with speed bumps or freeway and I live in the city of san diego and i drive and los angeles and to people that been to Cali knows the roads are some of the worst

so you must be driving pretty fast or your shocks are bad I just can't see sfc hitting speed bumps at stock height when I drive my car daily and have no issues at all

And its a lifestyle not ever one can deal with lowered car
If your not scrapping your not low enough lol

Re: Slammed Third Gens - Post Pics

Agreed. I am starting to get bored with my set up already. I want to be able to get the fender lip down even with the wheel lip of an 18" wheel. The way the suspension is on these cars makes that impossible unless it were completely bottomed out. With no rear springs the rear only tucks about half the sidewall on the rear tires.

Yea it's kind of a limit to how low you can go unless you do some serious fab work

You ever had issue with one side being height than other my front left right fender height is like 24 1/2 in and right rear is 25in and left rear is 26in I switch coil to different sides and left rear still inch higher

Air bags is the only way & you can adjust the height without getting under the car!!!!!!
