Go Away Moisture!

I'm sure we've all had the same problem with our cars and the moisture buildup inside the front turn signal light lenses. I haven't found any tech articles on it or other menchioned threads so I'm hoping someone can help me on how to stop it! For good. And hopefully no one tells me use the hair dryer it's mainly the left one but the right one can buildup too. Any permanent tips please? Thanks a lot!

Re: Go Away Moisture!

Hmm, interesting. That's something that I've always wondered about. So what's the initial issue? The lamps drain hole has nowhere to drain water without a notch in the facia?

Re: Go Away Moisture!

I mean i really dont care if i have to notch it where it wont be seen behind the bulb. But this even happens when its dry as could be outside and i come outside and see a foggy lens, and wonder how and why it happens to just the left side more than the right... So even with a notch put it, i still see this happening and wouldnt know where to go from there

Yes posted above, but I don't like the idea of cutting my bumper cover. My lights don't seem to fog up.

Re: Go Away Moisture!

Like I said my lights don't seem to fog up, but then again I don't drive the car much. I found some lights at a Pull A Part that were very faded and nasty. I took them in the houes and run hot water from the sink in them a few times and then wet sanded and polished them-did the same to the lights from my car. The fog did stay in them for a bit, but by morning they were clear and dry. I think temp and weather has alot to do with it. My houes was 70 so they dried out kinda fast, but I bet if I would have had them outside or in my non-heated garage they would have stayed fogged for a while longer.

The problem I see is that the light has a lenes inside of a lenes and the vent/drain is between the lenses. Most lights have one lense and the vent is behind it. What I have done in the past to lights is drill one or two small holes in the back of the light for extra ventelation and it seems to work well, but not sure it would work with this style of light.

Re: Go Away Moisture!

This will happen with the sun out. If its raining. Not raining. Mostly only to the left side...I really don't get it. Just very unattractive.

Re: Go Away Moisture!

Is there something that prevents you from drilling a couple tiny holes in the area where the moisture is being trapped?

The answer seems to me to be this:
You either figure out how to seal the moisture out 100%, or you figure out how to let the moisture escape.

Is it possible your lights ALREADY have drain holes, and somebody installed them upside down, so that existing drain holes act as a collector instead of a drain?

Are existing drain holes plugged or otherwise blocked?

Re: Go Away Moisture!

No existing holes. And even though it won't be seen I just didn't really want to drill holes in my bumper...since its not even on the car a year yet. But it's been doing this since I've had the car before the new bumper cover.

There are vent holes in the lights, it's on the bottom of them them in the center between the 2 lenses and as far as I know you cannot install the light upside down as the mouning tabs are offset on the light and the bumper cover.

Re: Go Away Moisture!

This is a regular occurrence for me, and it always happens after it rains. Usually it clears up fast with sunshine, however if it stays overcast it can be fogged like that for a few days. I don't see a problem with drilling a few small holes in the bottom of the lamp housing on both sides to help drain any of this accumulated moisture. I bought a new set from 1A auto and they are a great fit, great look, however they too have the fogging issue when it rains.
