Re: how did u clean your tanks?

outside of tanks no problem , inside not so easy . a method i have used with good results . don't laugh , "LIQUID PLUMBER GEL" . remove tanks , flush & rinse . wrap a few old nuts & bolts in a rag , secure them in rag & insert in tank , plug/cap all openings , pour in liquid plumber . slosh around all sides , let sit 15-20 mins. on each side , slosh around again . use liquid plumber full strength (use care , you can get burned) , rinse & repeat as needed . final step , remove rag , wash & rinse inside with soap & water . "DON'T LAUGH" , it DOES work . good luck .

Re: how did u clean your tanks?

^^^ This is pretty close to what I used when cleaning the overflow bottle on my vert.

I used brake FLUID on the exterior to clean the plastic with really good results, but I removed the tank and soaked in a large tub with mixture of bleach, water, and some toilet bowl cleaner with bleach (I'm no chemist, so mix your chems carefully). I left my tank completely submerged for almost 48 hours, and it cleaned it really well.

My washer tank I only cleaned the exterior using brake FLUID and a small scrub brush covered with a rag to prevent splatter of the BF.

Re: how did u clean your tanks?

I tried the toilet bowl cleaner and bleach thing. I bought the wrong toilet bowl cleaner and wound up with some kind of reaction going on - good thing I had it outside because it might have turned into a hazmat incident. Anyway - I got them clean, but not perfect. i think a nest coolant tank is on my needed list. I will have to live with my washer fluid tank, as that one is unobtainable unless I settle for something that doesn't look correct.

Tried Hawks? They have 82-87 and 88-92 new. I dunno if they're perfect repros but they're about the only source for the 88-92.

Re: how did u clean your tanks?

The 82-87 washer reservoir is incorrect for the early third gens. There was a second design. It will work but will not look correct.

Looks great? How the hell do you get the bolt off for the overflow that goes to the strut tower, you know the one that is a 10mm that is behide the wheel well liner? I tried for 15 mins at the junk yard and the whole shaft just spun-did not see a way to get a tool inside the bottle.

Guess I got lucky. All of mine have come off with taking them off? Thanks for the compliment though.

Thanks. I haven't ever really heard of it either. I used it to remove paint from a plastic part years ago, and hadn't really tried to test it capabilities until I got the messy vert. Figured if it would remove paint it could remove other random crud on plastic. I used it in various underhood areas with awesome results, pics in my thread for the vert.

All three of my cars have the same washer bottle and all have cruise, so I would assume so? Don't have a non cruise to compare with.

Re: how did u clean your tanks?

Remove tanks, cap bottom hole, fill half way with a bleach solution (75% bleach / 25% water), cap top hole, shake the crap out of it until clean. Spray same solution on exterior of tanks and let soak for 30 minutes (keep it wet with solution). Rinse tanks inside out with water. They will look great!

Our washer bottle look to be the same. You just have your battery mounted where the cruise is mounted, and gets moved up to the fender - Firebird.

Bleach mixed with any type of acid (Commonly found in toilet bowl cleaners) or ammonia produces chlorine gas (Used as bio warfare in WWI!).

If you breathe any of it in you will have a VERY bad day!

I used all sorts of things, but the best was elbow grease. I actually documents most the products and procedures in my build thread.

Nice work. My tanks are the biggest eyesore in my engine bay. I have been contemplating a way to hide them so I don't have to look at 'em!
