**August 2014** COTM *Nominations*
This thread is a Nomination Thread to nominate cars that will compete for this month's Car of the Month honor. The 10 or less most popularly nominated cars will be compiled into a *Voting Thread* in a couple of weeks. If you do not nominate a member's car for COTM, you can still second or third (fourth, fifth, so on) someone else's nomination. cars must have at least one second nomination in order to make the Voting Thread.
Do not nominate your own car. Your car must be nominated by another TGO Member.
Do not ask your wife, husband, friends, extended family, etc. to register as TGO Members for the purpose of nominating your car. If you are nominated, do not ask people to register as TGO Members for the purpose of voting for your car.
Do not nominate more than one car.
This is not a picture thread. Post only ONE good photo of the car you wish to nominate. Do not use photo-shopped pictures.
Do not nominate cars that are not in a high quality, finished state.
And if you are nominated, please DO go out and take an abundance of good quality photos of your ride (multiple angles, interior, engine) and make them publicly accessible (for example via a photo album in your public profile or some sort of hyperlink to your photo album.)
*****This Month's Criteria*****
Track Heat. This month we'll feature all out race cars - High quality, finished Camaros and Firebirds that are purpose built for the track (1/4 mile OR road course.)

I'll nominate Big_Mods. He has a SWEET LSX road course/autoX car.

Just to show how in depth, or "serious" this car is for the track! Check that interior!

Linson, you should allow 2 good pictures for the nomination thread. It is VERY difficult to find one picture that justifies a car. Actually, don't think one picture is capable of justifying a car. Just a suggestion.

we sure could use at least one or two more nominees to make this month interesting.
i wanted to nominate Andrew91GT, but i cant find any pictures of his car (not even in his build thread), plus, i dont think he's posted anything in like a year.
but if anyone else knows of any good track-themed cars, dont be shy. nominate 'em.

Well, its not. I don't even vote. But i DO need more than TWO nominees. Should i PM you in the future when we're a week in and have only one or two cars nominated?
Re: **August 2014** COTM *Nominations*
LOL, PM me? For what? I'm just saying that usually people running a contest of most any kind do not get involved other than running it. The whole COTM thing seems to have lost interest recently. Less votes and nominations.

so that you can nominate someone and get the ball rolling on COTM.
still cant believe you raised the issue of "conflict of interest"
. this isn't some bureaucracy...there is no money on the line here - its just Third Gen COTM. its not like i vote twice... i dont even vote at all. it is nice to tell someone that they have a great car that deserves to be recognized - and i dont see why i should not do that because i also take the time to facilitate the contest.
so, what is your point? that you want to run COTM? that you want someone else to run COTM? that there is something wrong with the way i'm running COTM? that we should abondon the COTM program altogether? seems like last month we had eight or nine nominees. that's not bad. i think that this month with Track Cars being showcased, it is somewhat difficult because track cars must walk a fine line between their track purposes and having a "show" enough appearance to be considered for a contest such as this. However, i also think that those types of cars SHOULD be showcased, at least for one month.
lastly, as i have said before, i am very open to other member's ideas for COTM topics or other ways to improve the program. but if you'd prefer to publicly try and rat-*** me and the COTM program, i think it shows bad character on your part.

Re: **August 2014** COTM *Nominations*
Whoa there big fella. No one is trying to insult you, the COTM program or assign blame, it was just an observation that in the past year interest seems to have declined. Less voting and nominations, that's all. I seem to remember there not being a problem getting 8 or more noms per month and winning cars getting 40-50 votes or more. If you took that personally, maybe I should have made myself more clear. Having to bump the thread and throw noms out there yourself to fill the ballot affirms this.
I want nothing to do with running the program, my time is well consumed already.
Possibly conflict of interest was a bad choice of words. I tried to clarify that by saying "I'm just saying that usually people running a contest of most any kind do not get involved other than running it.". Nothing more, nothing less.
You bring up a valid point with race themed months, which three of the last four months were, more or less. May was "sleepers" June "race ready" and this month "track heat". The most popular seems to be open themed. By putting a performance stipulation on the nominees, you are cutting out the majority of cars here. Fresh off the showroom floor they were under 200 HP. It's pricey enough to do a proper resto, let alone build a race car.
You want suggestions?
Start earlier. Nomination threads usually were up before the end of the first week. Voting threads were up by the middle of the month.
More relaxed themes and criteria. As I said before, open themes seem to have the most popularity. Let it be fun and don't exclude cars because they're not fast enough.
I'd like to see the humble sport coupe get a month. My first 3g f body was one with a 2.8 and tons of fun, even if I had to open the door and help it along with my leg to get it going.
If pointing this stuff out gets your panties in a bunch, you may be too sensitive.

Re: **August 2014** COTM *Nominations*
i appologize to Matt (MW66Nova), and those of you who nominated him, for not catching this sooner, but it has been less than 1 year since Matt's car won COTM (he was the October 2013 winner. this makes him inelegible until November 2014, and therefore, there will be four nominees.

on starting earlier, i started out having the Voting threads up by the middle of the month and found that 95% of the voting was done in the first three or four days, and we would then have a week or more of running out the clock, sometimes already having a clear cut winner. so i decided to break each month up into three segments: 1. one week (roughly) for the current winner to bask in the glory before starting a new COTM thread. 2. two weeks (roughly) of nominations. 3. one week (roughly) of voting for a winner. not saying that yours is a bad suggestion, just pointing out that there is a reason i started doing it this way.
on open themes or more relaxed themes. again, there is a reason for everything, and this is a topic that has been settled and rehashed in the past when Brandon was running COTM. firstly let me point out that since i started facilitating COTM, there have been four contests (this month's is number 5) and half of the ones we've had have been "open months." you said both "open" and "relaxed" so that will make it convenient for me to address two separate issues. the reason that every month isnt an "open month" is to include more members and their rides, not less. typical winners of "open month" contests tend heavily to be LSX supercars (because they are frickin' awesome) and bone stock time capsules (which are also something to behold, plus have the most passionate voting block). so the reason for a criteria such as "sleepers" is to showcase some of the very nice, deserving cars that lay somewhere in the middle.
now, when you say "relaxed" as in relaxed criteria...i may run COTM, but i dont run this site. the site administrator, JT, wants Third Gens to be represented in the most favorable possible light, and for that reason, COTM nominees have to be pretty top notch. consider that performance automotive publications source COTM winners for subject matter focusing on Third Gens. i like to think of it as creating a car callendar: you want different varieties, but they all have to be top notch.
i would even love to ad levity to COTM once in a while and have "ugliest car" or "most r3dn3k car" or whatever. i think it'd be fun, but i dont see it happening.
as far as the sport coupe thing, based on my experience here, it had not occurred to me that there would be enough high quality SC cars to make a COTM Theme of it. thats not to say that exceptional ones cant be nominated for COTM. my point though is that i have certain criteria that i must work within. and remember, its only been 4 months so far. if you dont like the themes so far, i AM open to suggestions, but you may find that you like some future themes. but the themes arent going away, and that is to include not to exclude.
i'm gonna go ahead and give you the final word, but then i gotta close this thread as the *Voting Thread* is already up and running.
Re: **August 2014** COTM *Nominations*
Final word? If I initially "came off kinda shi++y" I'll apologize. It certainly wasn't my intention. I explained my thought process on the statement. Which was I had never seen a person running a contest involved in nominations, so it seemed odd. Again, possibly a bad choice of wording it. We good?
P.S. The voting thread is not a poll, just a thread. You may want to fix that.

poll seems to be working. i'm gonna close this thread but let me know in the Voting Thread if there is still a problem with the poll. you may have tried too vote to early and it takes a couple of minutes to set up the poll after the body of the thread is submitted.
oh, and yeah, we're good.
