I found a set of BRAND NEW lexan t-tops. They were delivered today! What an improvement!

I had to put my old t-tops key cylinders in, and I have wanted to fix the ones in my doors (silver instead of black). Looking at it I thought I could switch them. Turns out they are different, but as long as I had the doors torn apart I painted the ones in the doors. While I was at it I fixed the driver's door handle (loose), adjusted the windows (minor) fixed the passengers mirror (loose) and greased the window tracks, locking mechanism and door latch stuff...

Lot's done in a couple hours and the car lookes sooo much better!

 

Looks sweet I did some good ol apperance modifications today and I'm so much happier now

 

I saw those pictures earlier. It looks like you have a great start. You are going to clear coat that aren't you?

 

Nope no clear. I like how my paint has came out so far so I will stick with my oroginal plans of using the 1 stage paint and color sanding and then waxing the car out.

 

So were did you get them and how much. I would like some for my 1991 camaro

I like the Lexan tops because they're so much lighter than the glass ones. Unfortunately, mine have stress cracks all over them! Mine look like total $hit.

 

please tell me you paid a crap load of money for those so i don't fell bad that i missed them.

thanks for the pm. I think I will still live. eventhough you did get a great deal on them I wouldn't have that much, seeing as i spent all my money on ZR1 wheels. thanks though

 

How did you do that exactly? I took mine apart, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to remove the lock cylinders without making a huge mess. I've got a real nice set of t-tops on there now, but I'd love to swap the original locks back in.

 

There were 2 rivets I had to drill out to remove this little plate that covers the cylinder. After that you pull the clip, put the cylinder into the new top and replace the clip. I don't think you would have to replace the cover, but I did. I had to drill the holes in the new top a little wider to fit the only rivets I had on hand, but it went back together real nice.

 

so how much? I want a set also.. I havn't done much looking into yet though.. they eventually get stress cracks? all of them? and if so how long before they start to show? moreso without subframes im assuming?

 

So you found them shipped today right? You neighbors will be mad when they find out you took them. Just kidding, you kinda worded it like you just found them laying around. Nice tops thogh, my glass ones are scratched

 

Even though the lexan tops are lighter, I'd recommend staying with the glass. The lexan ones turn to crap really quickly...that's why GM stopped using them.

 

Lexan scratches up really easy as well.dosn,t it?
