My blackouts got stolen!! $#%@

I walked out to my car this morning...

I'm just about to get in, when I notice my drivers side tail light blackout is just about ripped in half, and sticking out away from the car...

I make my way to the rear of the car, and sure enough it's totally screwed up. My first thought was "oh $hit, someone hit my car!", but then I looked at my other blackout and it was totally gone!!

That's when I realized someone tried to steal em. The funny *** part (even though I'm pissed!! ) is that whoever tried to steal em got the passanger side off, but couldn't get the drivers side off and ended up breaking it! So now the dumb$hit only has 1 black out, HAHA

Serves that ***** right, but now I gotta order some new ones... guess I better use my car cover a little more often. Dip$hit thieves!!

BTW: They were velcro attached, not screw-ins.

I had mine stolen when I was getting my convertible top replaced. No I am very picky of the place I take my car. I perfer it to stay in a gated area or in the shop bay. Some shops are cool. They understand... I justed dropped 45 bucks for a new set today finally. I originally paid like 75. Got them from Jegs... Part number GT030.

That really sucks, since they need one more, if you have any friends with them tell them to keep a look out for theirs.

When I got new blackouts for my tail lights I used 3m's 1/2" double sided tape for car door molding.I lined the edges of the blackouts and then put them on.That made it almost impossible to them pull off.I don't know if it made the difference but I did it in the morning in direct sunlight. The sun's rays heated the blackouts/tape and they stuck well on the tailights.

Thanks dude, I'll check into that...

My stolen ones were from Auto Ventshades, and they were approx. $75.00

That's a good idea...

Like I said, mine were held in place with velcro.. so that made it pretty easy to remove under normal circumstances...

Part of the reason I think the punk had so much trouble getting them off was that the hatch was closed, so he literally had to pull them out from under the hatch.. and they were suctioned in there pretty good, even I had trouble getting the broken one off... dumbass must have pulled as hard as he could to break the damn thing, cuz they are pretty solid...

When I had to replace the taillight lens on my old 84 Mercury, I used some of that orange gasket sealer from autozone. After it set, I couldn't pull it off no matter how hard I tried. And before you ask, no, the lens was not origonally a seperate piece from the assembly. The damn lens fell off in traffic one day as I went over a bump, and by the time I got back to where it fell off, it was in a million little pieces all over the road. So, I "acquired" a lens from a local junkyard after they would not sell me just the lens. They wanted to sell me the entire assembly, which i didn't need.

Been there too. Had mine stolen at the mall. Now I take them off whenever I park and put them in the back seat. When I go to drive again I put them back on. Kinda sux, but oh well.

If you are going to be in someplace for a good amount of time, you should always take them off.

This is what I have in my room pointed at the driveway.

It's kinda dark outside so the picture is too dark, need an infrared unit.

Zepher, just use motion detectors and when the MD are triggered a light comes on and also the camera starts recording. Hows that sound might save some money in a infrared unit.

From what I understand talking with a buddy of mine who does security camera installs.. it's a bit more complicated than that and pretty expensive Forgot the details of it though in the past couple of months. I was trying to get a single camera setup that was motion activated for outdoor use and it ended up being over 700 bucks.

Well, the VCR that is underneath those monitors is a TimeLapse unit that has connections for an alarm, motion detector, and some other devices. VCR can record 480 hours on a 2 hour VHS tape, looks cool when you play it back, almost an entire month in 2 hours, sun comes up, goes down, people coming and going, etc...
I got the stuff for free and just hooked it up for the heck of it, used it mainly to see who comes over without getting up from the computer and looking out the window.

That's why I never bought them.

$75 for two pieces of plastic that will eventually be stolen or fly off on the highway.
