foglights should i replace?

well one of my foglights on my 90 firebird is very dim, i thought it was the bulb but when i opened her up i noticed that the metalic lining that reflects light was peeling!. should i replace the whole foglight, *(which i dont want to do) , i hate myself for saying this but you think i can spray paint some metalic in there?, will it shine the same, i hate spray painting anything i think its so stupid but hey if it beats me replacing the whole unit i'll do it, anyone have any suggestions, ideas.. thanks

They arent very cheap from GM. See if you can get a used one from hawks...so that's what I would do.

The bulb (the lens and the backing plated thing that are peeling) are available at AutoZone. I got a pair for 14.99 and a couple "pure white" bulbs for $6. They were a universal set, and all I did was take the actual light part out and threw the rest away. Then I put them into the factory GTA brackets, and viola driving lights bright enough to drive at night without my headlights. There was a little re wiring, but it's 2 wires per side. I cut the GM plug, soldered in a quick connector to match the aftermarket bulbs, and I was done. The best thing is, they still have the GM weather pack connector to plug them to my car, but behind the light they accept cheap aftermarket bulbs and lenses. You couldn't tell that I'd done anything if I did'nt tell you. Look into it.

thats cool, i actually went to autozone today and i had seen a pair of aftermarket lights that are called blazer, they look just like our foglights, i seen someone speak about blazer in another topic, i might just get that 20 bucks for the pair , i went to 2 junkyards and didnt find anything, only thing i found that was cool was a camaro posi, 400 bucks, seemed in good condition, at least to me , while i was walking in i got happy seeing a formula go in , i thought they just were about to junk it, but it seemed to be the owners car , stick shift , banged up but looked nice inside

Yep, Blazer, those are them. It comes with wires and a switch and the housing. I just threw all that crap away and used the "bulbs". They look friggin awesome. I had one broken retaining clip (the piece that the screw goes thru to hold the bulb in the housing) and with a little trimming I was able to use one of the Blazer ones to replace it.

Not too tough at all. All you have to do is jack up the car (you may not have to, but mine is lowered about 2-2.5 inches in the front) and undo the bottom of the front splash panels. Then you just reach up there and take the bolts out and viola, they come out. It takes a little while loinger the first time, but when you've changed a couple lenses it is easy.

Hey everyone, I'm new here so I'd appreciate all help and opinions. The stock fog lamps on my 91 firebird don't work and I'm sure that its the wiring by the actual lights. I decided to do what other people here have done and get those Blazer lights. But when I tried to put them in, I saw the difference in the housing and wiring. I don't know much about ectronics, but if anyone can give a detailed explanation on getting these Blazers to fit and wire in, I'd be very grateful. Thanks guys.

I still don't know how to get my foglights off. I don't know what this "splash guard" is...

its under the car, if you jack it u can get to it easily, but even if you dont just go in front of your car and look under it, it has about 3 screws holding it , its right under the bumper, and in front of the wheel

The Blazer set is the way to go. Had mine for about a year now. There is a set done by Hyper-White also. I use 100 watt bulbs and never use my headlights. Passed many cops, coming and going, and haven't been stopped yet.

You can watch people "jump" when you come up behind them in the #1 lane, about a car length or two, and then I pop my headlights on. I use the Cool Blues lamps. Bright as hell.

Well, if Blazer did it on purpose, it'd be nice if they made a housing that actually fit

I feel pretty stupid now. I bought a set of blazers after reading how lots of third-gen owners are satisfied, but now i think i shouldn't have. I have a 91 bird and I guess its different than earlier years cuz my stock fogs have sort of an angle to them, they're not rectangular. The Blazers are rectangular (like other bird years?) and would fall right out of my stock housing. I've gotta do some thinking now, cuz I'd like to still use them...

Blazer might have been the original subcontractor for the lights.

Anyhoo......get down to your local Harbor Freight Tool store today. They have the fog lights set on sale for $7.99!!
Just remove the backs and use the insides, lamps and front glass. It's a steal!! (I picked up two sets.)

Yea, but since the blazers are rectangular , they are smaller on one side than the stock were. The side plastic pieces won't hold it in.

After playing around with it, I found that it'll stay if i put the guts in the stock mount, but use the old glass lens too. The lens will hold the guts in, whereas the blazer glass wouldn;t. Now I just need to find a way to reconnect my old wires where they rusted/corroded/broke apart. Thanks

hm i still kind of dont understand how u think it doesnt fit.. i dont think our foglights are different ...are they?, as far as wires go, i just took off the little clamp on the stock black wire and striped it a bit, with the striped part i tied it around the little screw that holds the bulb in your new blazer light. then the red wire just clamps on , no need for stripping of any sort

He's got a '91 so the shape is different.

LIP - If you put the guts inside, will they hold in place in all directions? If the reflector or bulb is able to move a little bit, it'll probably throw off the aim.
