anybody replaced these?

Hi

86 Roc

i am getting a replacement set of the mouldings that are at the very top of the inside doors. (what you MAY rest your arm on) they are both heat cracked. Can any one tell me how they come off? Are they just clipped on and do you use a screwdriver? What is the best way?

Thanks, Dora

Theres like inverted nuts on the back side that screw onto plastic studs. Be very careful taking them off as the plastic gets pretty brittle.

I used a needle nose pliers to unscrew the nuts off.

Did you at first pry it up with a screwdriver? How do you get at them?

You have to remove the door panels first. They are attached to the panels.

Or did you mean how do you remove the door panels?

First you'll need to remove the arm rest. Theres 3 torx screws that hold that on.
Theres a couple small torx screws around the door handle, be careful though some are fake and just molded plastic to make it look like screws. Then that trim panel comes off. The door lock indicator is snapped onto a rod, you'll need to muscle that off.

Then you'll need to slide like a putty knife around the outer edge of the door panel and pop up all the press in clips that are around the door. Theres probably 5 on each side and I think 5-6 on the bottom.

Once you have that all done the top of the door panel hangs on the inner door frame. You need to gently hit the top of the door trim down and inwards toward the glass to get the top to "pop" off.

The door panel will come right off then. On the backside of the door panel are the nuts that hold that trim piece on.

It sounds much more complicated then it is.
