the other end to where that white wire plugs into should be there somewhere....i remembering replacing mine about a year or 2 ago....did you try installing it & then seeing if you could find it out? sometimes that helps....does your trunk have a light in it like the 91's?

dont those wires belong in the car? with the rest of the wiring harness?
and is that even for the hatch motor? if i recall my 89 had a small 4 wire connector
maybe thats where it branched off.. thats probably all the wires for hatch motor, power release, and light i take it?
yeah its probably for the light (the light is probably on the trim panel if your scratching your head trying to find it)

the motor is an 87 so its a little dif. then the 89-up ones. i know where the other wires go, they go into a black relay box, ive got them im there fine. this is off my old unit that doesnt work, and ive got my new one in and hooked up, i just dont have power to it. i was wondering if this wire hadanything to do with it, it'll lock the hatch, and release, but it wont pull down. ive read though Lon from TDS's posts and it seems like ive done everything he says, but i dont know wtf is wrong. do camaro's have the 2 fuses like the firebirds do for this thing? perhaps that could be the problem?

The white wire in question isn't plugged into anything on your 1987 model year car. In 89 or 90 GM changed from a manually switched hatch light to one that is turned on and off by the hatch pull-down unit. In those cars (as I recall) it connects to an orange with white stripe wire. Bottom-line, that white wire in question has nothing to do with why your pull-down isn't working.
Did you check for power at the red with white-stripe wire that connects to the blue wire? Next to check is that the ground wire is connected to the ground location below the hatch pull-down unit. If your wiring has been cut, then you're probably better off replacing the striker-sensing switch.
The only functional difference between the 86-87 and 88-91 pull-down units is the connector on the blue wire. Yours has a large white connector. The 88-91 has a much smaler black connector on the blue. wire. Some people make the mistake of plugging that white wire your questioning into the blue wire.
There is one fuse and relay for the pull-down unit on Firebird and Camaro and another fuse and relay for the hatch solenoid release.
