formula buldge hood question
I bought a formula buldge hood that is very nice
, BUT the opening of the buldge is just open. What (and where??) can I get to keep water from getting under my hood?? I think I remember seeing something on ebay, it went from the opening to the throttle body but mine is carbed. Is there such a thing for carbed cars?? anybody ever had this problem or fabed anything to fill the hole?? all ideas appreciated

There were two setups I know of for the opening on the turbo formula hood.
on the early hoods for carb'd cars (82-84) they had a honeycomb mesh to cover the opening in the hood, and there was extra equipment inside to allow a inner flap to open at high speed so the carb could breathe cold air from the opening. I know I've seen a photo recently here, you may want to search for that.
on the later hoods (87-up) there was just a blank plate covering the opening and no extra equipment.
you should try bone yards fo these plates, I have seen both the mesh and the plate cover. they are cheap, I use the mesh on my hood, it allows the engine to breathe and acts like a heat vent. I don't use the other extra equipment though since my motor is an open element. I don't drive in the rain though, if you do you may consider using the block off plate.
If junkyards are not close to your area, I see the plates and the induction assembly in the classifieds from time to time.

On mine i have a mesh, but its breathable mesh, the water can still seep in. However, i guess you could call it a "drip rail", kinda like the gutters you have at the edge of your roof, its tilted, and directs water away from the engine. That peice is located just below the opening. Ill see if i can take a picture later.

I ran my '84 for 2 years without a cover on that screen, never had any problem with more than a few drops of water getting in. I don't know about formulas, but all V8 firebirds from 82-84 got that hood IIRC and they either came with a vacuum operated flap that channeled cold air to the aircleaner or they got a plastic cover.

My 84 350 carb. has the vacum operated flapper and the channel to direct water away from the motor. Ive never had any problems with water getting inside.

now if I could just decide which way to go!!!! I think if the hole is there it should have some level of functionality
!!!! But just blocking it off would be cheap, easy and give a cleaner under hood look. I'm gonna have to think about this a little bit. Thanks everybody
