Ram air hood question.

i'm just nearing the end of a rather extencive rebuild of my t/a and i've been struggling to find a hood for it. There is NO WAY that a stock hood will fit...mine is in fine shape if it would. at least not without putting a cowl in it. my question comes from the fact that i really like, scratch that....i love the ram air style hoods on these cars, but i need at least 4 inches over stock...perhaps even five. how much clearence does the cowl give over stock....also, could i get one with a taller set of snorkles if u will, or if not...what type of money would i be looking at to have one done custom?

I had the RAII hood and it gave about 3" more clearance in the center.
the RAI I have now has about 3".

hahaha. Very funny!!! hey you should come see it though. it's back by my moms house...the only thing left of the interior is the dash..which i'm waiting on gauges to finish...because i have to construct some sort of a bezzel to hold them. but carpet, plastics, seats and roll cage are all finished up. and i just rebuilty my tranny, it'll be goin in in the next week or so. however, being that you're allready ancient, i wouldnt worry about your age to much. infact, i urge you to quit counting, i dont want you getting depressed.

Custom?

so what of the question pertaining to a custom hood? because 3 inches will not be near enough, and short of getting a different intake, there is no way for me to get around that. so, i know it can be done, but what type of price would one be looking at? any ideas?

Talk to VFN Fiberglass, they did Joe Overton's hood for his 4th gen, I'm sure they'd be able to hook you up for your 85.

So if i understand your post correctly (3+3=6?) You Had roughly 6 in of clearance with your RA2 hood? That means TAsxRacer you should be able to run with this hood...

No, each gave about 3" each, not combined.
The RA2 is 4" tall but there is a ridge in the middle bringing the ususable clearance to about 3".

i am assuming that pic is of the RAI hood. is the RAII hood similar. how do you make the ram air functional. I saw a website that offered these with ram air boxes included. i am curious how this would work. it seems like the scoops are a little far back to catch the TPI air box. I think the RAII hood for camaros are sweet but for the price if they aren't functional I would probably be better off with a cowl induction hood. just trying to figure out which hood to buy for my app.

The underside of the RAII hood looks similiar, but has a ridge down the center.
I have the RAII Airbox that was available with the RAII hood and I plan on puting using that with the RAI hood. there is thread with a write up on this site on on what needs to be done. Basically, open up the hood right behind the vents, mod the airbox a little bit to mount the maf and TB bellow (you have very little space between the TB and the airbox so you have to pretty much mount the maf to the airbox directly.)
