any expirence with Transtar clearcoats?

I'm painting my car soon and Ive only sprayed ppg clears before but I dont like how much orange peel ppg tends to get. my teacher told me about Transtar clears and he said he painted a bike with it and it layed on like glass, and didn't run easily. but I dont know how well they hold up to weather or how tough they are... anybody used this brand before?

heres the one I'm thinking about using (also its really cheap!)

Transtar clearcoat I have used with great looking results
However the UV factor after say 3 years is not all that
great...look at OmniClear and you will be a happy camper...

I have used it without any issue. It lays out really nice for me.
I have not noticed any more or less fading over the years compared to other brands, but then again I have not done the exact same paint job years later and compared the two.

what it means is that adter a period of unknown time the UV factor
causes the clear coat to get a yellowish tint....search google on UV factors
for automotive paints and you will find what you need to know....

well I would expect all clears would yellow after awhile, I just dont want to spend all this money on a clear that is going to yellow after a year...

basically I just want to know how this clear looks after 3-6 years...

forgot about those fourms, thanks

and after searching over there it seems most people like this clear as its easy to spray, doesnt get too much orange peel and holds up well over the years. I think Im going to use this on my car then. anymore input is welcome.

Re: any expirence with Transtar clearcoats?

I was just at Levines in E. Hartford picking up some supplies. The guy in front of me asked if they could mix any color up with Transtar. The counter person said "you don't want to use that"
That's my only experience

I forget what brand we used on my friends race car. I think it was either DuPont or PPG clear. Wasn't cheap by any means. It did kinda have a lot of orange peel with several thick coats, but after it fully cured it layed nice and flat. Still looks great 3 years later with no wet sanding/buffing etc.

hmm, I wonder why the sales rep said that... but I normally use PPG and I hate it, it holds up nice but I personally can't get it to look nice, it always seems to have lots of orange peel.

what kind of ppg clear are you using? at work we use autocolor production clear and it does seem to orange peel more than i like but the stuff i got to use on my car, forgot the name but still a ppg product, seems to lay down pretty good while i did a couple of test panels.

I think mainly use ppg 2021 clear. and as for your experiences, everybody has their own spray patterns and techniques so everybodies panels may come out different, but good luck with your car.
