275 40 17

hi all i am running 93-94 firehawk rims they are 17 by 8.5 with 6.5 bs i have 2" spacer all the way around with 275/40/17 on all four corners i know the front is rubbing at full lock and probaly the only to fix that is to run 245/45/17 up front but that will have to wait .the rear tires are rubbing when i hit a bump on the front edge of the finder lip . the car is all stock with 250000 miles on it so i know the springs are worn but it is not loweredjust lowered by worn springs. i wanted to lower it with the intrax springs 2" drop but they are rubbing now it will probaly be wrose if i lower it .i heard of people rollin the fender lip to help but i cant find out how they did it is this the only to fix this problem or is there anything else i could . any help with this would be much appriceted

You do know a 45 series sidewall is even taller than a 40 right ? Did you mean 275/35-17 ?

The Ronal R-15s run a 275/40-17 tire with no issue.

How many times in daily driving are your turning full lock anyways ?

If rubbing is an issue, common sense would say to not turn the wheel to full lock anyways.... even if rubbing wasn't a problem... full lock is rather rough on the PS pump anyways.

Re: 275 40 17

a 45 is not always taller then a 40 a 245 45 17 is actually a tiny bit shorter than a 274 40 17 . the 45 is a % of the width which is narrorow than the 275. but when i am backing out of my drive way or something like that it rubbs i heard of people running the same tires with no problem but i still rub. i will sooner or later change the front to the 245s but i want to keep the 275 on the rear love the look but i dont want the fenders to cut the tires all up . i know it is probally because my springs are sagging but i hear some people run the same tires and lower there cars with no rubbing and i dont know what to do but mabe roll the lip but cant find out how .

Re: 275 40 17

Actually, I fully understand how the ratio works.
The problem is I was to stupid to see you stated the change of > 245 < /45-17

Re: 275 40 17

The problem is your 2" spacers.

I run 17" 275/40s front, 285/40s rear with zero rubbing issues, not even at full lock. And both sizes on direct fit, no spacers needed, 4.5" BS, 17" x 9" wheels.

I think your spacers shoulda been a little smaller.

Re: 275 40 17

the rims are 17 by 8.5 with 6.5 bs i seen other people on here with the same size and they said they used 2" spacers thats why i ordered them i figured if they were a qutar inch smaller that might work but not sure if the front would rub even more or if even they sell that size only ones i seen were 1 and a half or 2" not three qutars

Correction....I didn't notice the width first.

If they don't sell them in 1/4" increments, you could always have 2" ones turned down to 1.75" (or whatever) at a local CNC shop.

Re: 275 40 17

I think the issue may be that he is running newer wheels than what the Ronals are?
The ones he has are 4th Gen wheels.
