I saw the last 30 laps. He was one turn away when the Dodge bumped his outside bumper sending him into the gravel and then into the wall. I put a small tribute on my web page so please visit and pay your respects to a fallen racer.

He was a great man who did much for his fans and gave much more to unfortunate kids. I'm not a NASCAR fan by any means, but I'll miss him and his presence in the sports highlights at night. What makes this all the more tragic is that he just recently became a grandfather.

I think this hits me hard due to a friend's death in October by a similar accident.

Actually, I don't think that anyone hit him. Of all the times that they replayed it, it looked like he just got loose. Let's not put blame on anyone.

But to add, the saddest thing was that the whole race people were bumping him, and just kept at it.

I am glad that his son took second though.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

No blame. I'm a real big earnhardt fan. He was a great driver. He drove hard like you are suppose to. He bloked Marlin off for the last 10 laps and on the last lap he seemed to come down on the track. Don't know if he got lose and came down or if he was still bloking. Didn't like the fact that the news is saying that Sterling hit Earnhardt. Just what I saw. This is a very bad day for Nascar. The only saving grace is that he died doing something he loved.

At least he died doing something heloved. And also helping his son getsecond. And The winner (can't remember his name) was driving a car for Earnhardt, and it was his first win in 462 tries. And he won all thanks to Earnhardt.

A sad day indeed. It was hard watching the Iroc race that immediately followed the broadcast of the Daytona 500, not knowing the condition of Dale. When there is no news of a drivers condition, you know it will be bad news. This makes 4 deaths in the last 9 months in Nascar for the same type of injury. The drivers and fans need soft walls to be implemented. We all deserve it. I suspect that #3 will be formally retired forever. Love him or hate him, he will still be missed.

It is a very big piece of race history that has left us. It is truly sad, and an enormous loss to the NASCAR community as well as family and friends. Dale was a caring and devoted person, passionate to his work as well as all that he cared for - wether it be family, fans, employees or fellow racers. He shall be greatly missed.

Im giving the Intimidator my respect and honor at the main page of www.ChevyWorld.net

It has been suggested that everyone drive with their lights on today in memory of Dale.
Mine are on!

Ken

This has been a very sad last couple days. I've always been a NASCAR fan as long as I can remember, and although I've never been a big fan, this is tough. It's gonna be wierd next week w/ him not being there. All my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. He will be sorely miss. Rest in Peace Dale, you're in a much better place!

Untill we all get to where we are going, racing lost one of its greatest drivers. a very sad time for racing.

I am still suprised, I remember after the big crash after lap 163 or something, he said that he thought the fans got what they paid for, (ie crashes), and afterlater in the race, well you get the picture.

And what is another ironic thing about daytona is that DALE raced there ho many times.
just my $0.02

anyway, SEE YOU LATER INTIMIDATOR, YOU ARE MISSED.
