ceiling dome lamp console Q's
ok in 84 on the ceiling console thing, theres a about a 2x6" rectangle plug or cover or something with thread stitches around the border of it, is it supposed to be able to be removed ? it look slike it can but maybe its not ? also just behind it towards rear of car on face of the console thing there small rectangle opening and some metal springy contact tang back inside there, what was in this originall ? i finall yfound out what those two small button switches up there were for once I got the fuse replaced, ones for the dome and other is for map, heh
then theres a trip odometer thing and a date thing up there too
what else is up there i dotn know about, i think something is missing regarding that open rectangle deal, anyone know ?
thanks

I believe you're describing the sunglass pouch, a leatherette affair that could be removed (though you'd need to pull the console to do it). I assume it's missing. Directly behind it toward the dome light was a slot for the flashlight, which was a rectangular piece that simply pushed in. It was held in place by a small clip on the flashlight body itself.

Perhaps a pic will help. Seeing the front of the flashing, since it sits flush, is difficult, but it is there. Note the sunglass pouch.

If I call correctly, the edges of the pouch are tucked around this 'plate' as you call it. I've seen many of these consoles and sold quite a few, but I've never seen one without the pouch. My "guess" is that someone's removed it.

I cant get that dome light console off of my roof, i only found 2 screws, around the dome light, and there is still somehting holding the console on. my guess is that the other screws are behind the pouch, but i didnt want to break it.

Do a search on my name and you'll find a thread having to do with the differences in the t-top and coupe versions of the overhead. There you'll see that both have four mounting slots forward. You either push the console toward the windshield or pull it toward the hatch, after removing the two screws you mention, for removal. Depends on the overhead you have.

I've seen a couple that didn't have the sunglasses pouch.
I use mine for holding my cellphone, I have it in the pouch, and the intenna goes into the flashlight hole since I dont have a camaro flash light. I like it and its not noticeable and easy to get to when it rings.

WalkerZ,
Here's a thread I posted some time ago that will answer your questions. Also, IROCdave, has a tech article that should shed more light, should you need it. By the way, the Camaro White Book doesn't list the Overhead (DK6) for 1988.
If you have other questions, let me know.

the console is very east to install, its harder to wire it correctly than it is to install. the holes are already on the center support br for hte roof all u have to do is put 4 1/2" screws in the front slide it on and put 2 3/4" screws int eh holes in the dome light part, estiamted time: under 15 minutes
