I just found an 86 camaro iroc with a 305 tpi and it has 4 wheel disk, how common are these on our cars? and also the guy wants $300 for it is that a good price? or can i pull one out of a yard cheaper?

Re: thirdgen 4 disk?

Not very uncommon. But are you saying $300 for the whole car? Even a pretty dead car is a good parts car at that price. If you can get in, turn the key & drive home...That is a great price.

Common enough. Price? Is the rear a 9- or 10-bolt? Limited slip or open? What's the gear ratio? All questions that may determine what you're willing to spend (though $300 seems steep).

A bit steep for a 9-bolt. Even steeper for a 10-bolt.

Re: thirdgen 4 disk?

All the 4th gen rears will be 10-bolt rears & about 2" wider, per side, for a total of 4" wider.

If you go the 4th gen rear route, get a LS1/98-02. They are a hair narrower than the LT1 rears, the rotors are bigger, the calipers better. The 93-97 rotors are the same size as a late 3rd gen rotor & calipers are only a little better than the 3rd gen calipers.

CORRECTION: I think the LT1/93-97 calipers are identical, but its the center section that is a little better than the 3rd gen ones.

Re: thirdgen 4 disk?

is it smarter to go the 4'th gen route or the 3rd gen route? from what iv read they all just bolt on meaning no modification?

The fourthgen rear is no stronger than a thirdgen (10-bolt) with 28-spline axles. 89-97 cars essentially have the same brake set-up. While the fourthgen rear will bolt in, like the thirdgen rear, there are other considerations, such as parking brake, speedo gears, and combination valve. Check the following FAQ for more details:

thats true but as james said i can always get one for a forthgen for cheaper, $300 for jsut a rear end is kinda steep for me since i only paid $250 for the car.
