1Le vs C4 corvette calipers?

I did a search and didnt really find the answer i was looking for. From outward looks alone they appear to be the same exact caliper with the only difference probably being in the pad carrier bracket. Is this correct or do they not interchange like that? Im just trying to expand my options for sources of parts for my 1Le conversion eventually.

i'm pretty sure the 1LE was just existing Corvette caliper and bracket adapted to a modified spindle with a special rotor.

So in other words the caliper is exactly the same as a corvette one but the actual mounting bracket that holds the brake pads is different and of course there is the adapter brackets as well to bolt to the modified spindles. Is that about the gist of it? I was looking online to see the part numbers and they were different part numbers but the pictures of the parts looked identical so i was just curious.

The only difference in the calipers themselves is the brake hose mount position, so you may need a longer hose depending which one you get. Otherwise, they're interchangeable.
(keep in mind I'm talking about the C4HD calipers vs the 1Le)

the "C4HD" calipers are for the 13" rotors, correct?

Re: 1Le vs C4 corvette calipers?

Hmm i was under the impression the C4HD calipers were different than the 1LEs. I found a early 80s C4 vette in the boneyards months ago that had CFI injection and PBR front calipers that looked identical to the 1LE calipers. Im kicking myself i didnt just grab them but i figured it would be too much hunting around for everything to make them work.

The calipers may look similar, but they`re not. The ones you saw were for the non HD units. They look the same, but they`re meant for a thinner rotor. (i'm talking thickness of rotor, not diameter)

1LE and C4HD calipers are meant to have the thicker rotors. Doesn`t matter if it`s a 12" 1LE rotor or the 13" C4HD rotor.

I hope this makes sense.

Re: 1Le vs C4 corvette calipers?

C4hd calipers are the jl9 rpo for corvettes. The grand sport caliper is the same as the smooth baer casting.

Yea it does. I was just curious if it was the caliper itself that was different or if it was the actual bracket. From what it sounds like...they used a different caliper.

Re: 1Le vs C4 corvette calipers?

Bottom line, if you're doing your 1LE conversion and come across C4HD calipers, you can use them.

Re: 1Le vs C4 corvette calipers?

or grand sport calipers or baer calipers off of anything like mustangs. However the common kits on the stangs use abutments drilled for M12 bolts, not M14 so you will have to drill and tap those. The same calipers were used in many 12" setups for 4 and 6 banger cars, commonly on those they use the same abutment but cut off and redrilled for the 1" difference in rotor diameter. The difference is in the abutment only

Re: 1Le vs C4 corvette calipers?

OK I have been reading and reading and now I need to ask some questions, first as far as I can figure out the only two conversions that allow the use of the 1982 Camaro factory 15" 5 spoke aluminum rim is the C4 Non-HD 12" rear rotor coupled with the C4 Non-HD front caliper or the complete 1LE 12" rotor conversion. It's been mentioned that the C4 HD caliper (13" rotor) is compatible with the 1LE conversion which has a 12" rotor, but will the use of this caliper allow room for the 15" factory rims mentioned above, just looking for more options as I search the yards and internet for parts. I llike the 1LE option over the corvette because of the thicker rotor (better heat dissipation) and am leaning in that direction however I am unable to get a line on the caliper to spindle adapter bracket for the 1LE swap on the 3rd gen, any info, links or even a diagram would suffice with dimensions. Thanks.
