first post ever. z06 brakes on my 92 z28

Hey fellas, new here, until last week I was a g body guy. Cut to the chase I found a ton of corvette parts. Today I bought c 6 rims 18 x 8.5 front. 19 x 10 rear. Still need tires and a 2.5" spacer. But I also found a full set of 2006 z06 rotors and calipers. What would I need to make them work . Is there an e brake on these calipers... let me know what I need and where to find it. Oh my car is complete stock 92 z convertible with rear drums...
Thanks
Jarid

Check here for pictures of the complete system.

The stuff you have is the easy part, that you could just walk into any parts store and buy. I think they'll sell you the other parts as a kit though.

Not sure about "e" brake; never seen one of those; but IIRC the only other kind of brakes a car has besides the ones you use when you step on the pedal, known as the parking brake, is like a little set of drums inside the rear rotors, totally separate from the calipers.

Spacer should most likely be 2".

some people call the parking brake an emergency - or "E"- brake.. it's a regional thing, no need to be all grammatically correct about it.. but, no, the Vette stuff doesn't have those.

regarding the big question at hand: mounting the Vette calipers and rotors onto an F body spindle.. should be as easy as some simple spindle modifications and drilling 4 holes in a piece of 1/4" steel to get them mounted, and the rotors slip over stock rotors made into hubs.

Continued OT, sorry to the OP--> Personally, I like to think of an Emergency Brake System as one that can be safely engaged and disengaged (by the right hand) during driving, it's usually located between the 2 front seats. A Parking Brake System can be safely engaged and disengaged when at a stop only and is usually engaged and disengaged by the left foot.
I decided to chime in because as a technician working on many different makes and models of cars, these days manufacturers seem to be favoring the Parking-Brake and it is actuated by electronics on higher end vehicles or the left foot on older vehicles.
Is the E-Brake Dead?

Is the E-Brake Dead?
I guess so... being as how, never has been "alive".

There's no such thing. Doesn't matter whether you use your foot to press a pedal, or your hand to yank up on a lever. Not now on 2016 models, not on 82-92 models, not EVER. All that thing is, if you're lucky, is just barely enough brake to hold the car from rolling on a moderate grade, when it's already stopped. Not hardly any sort of situation that any reasonable person could reasonably describe as an "emergency". That word simply doesn't belong in the same concept with a parking brake. Not sire where it ever got that association, but it's pretty much a mismatch.

My own 60s and 70s cars, or my 2004 truck, with foot-operated parking brakes, are no different from my Camaro, or my Cheeeps or Cadillacs, or any other car with hand-lever-operated parking brakes. They're still .... just ........ parking brakes. If I'm lucky. (which I only am on about half of the vehicles in my driveway.... )

But all that aside... the Vette rear stuff is going to be a challenge to mount to one of these cars, since the whole situation back there is so radically different. Fronts, not so tough though. Don't have a Vette myself so I can't fill you in too much on the details.

Re: first post ever. z06 brakes on my 92 z28

i've personally driven a 1966 Lincoln almost 20 miles with only the foot activated "parking brake" to stop it when i blew a brake line, and it worked pretty decently ok to get me home.. that's a 5300 pound car that i was stopping with cable operated brakes, using one hand to hold the release lever so they would work more like regular brakes.. i've stopped a few other cars with the "parking" brake (just because why the hell not??) over the years, and they work perfectly good in an emergency situation..

Would a line lock hooked to the hand brake toggle switch work as a Suffiecient parking brake. Or would it release the pressure as soon as the car is turned off. I'm not sure how these solenoids work , if they need to be turned off or if they turn off once the power is gone.

no, a line lock wouldn't work.. well, it might, right up until the battery goes dead from the electrical draw from the solenoid, or the solenoid burns out because it's not rated for continuous usage..

it's not that hard to get functioning mechanical parking brake: just use a setup similar to the donor car with a drum in the center of the rotor...
