Hey guys, i've been thinking about a front Ls1 brake conversion...., but got a few questions.
I did a search, and seems the questions are very lightly touched on or has several different answers
I have a stock 87 Formula, front disc, rear drum.
1. if I do a Ls1 front disc conversion, can I just do the front and keep the rear drums with no known issues?
2. can I use the stock master and proportioning valve?
3, Will the Ls1 disc conversion push the front wheels out? if it does, will my stock 87 Formula wheels be affected? I see that GTA rims get pushed out but Formula wheels arent affected?...I don;t see how one set of wheels wil lbe pushed out and one wont.
4. I have a spare of GTA crosslace rims Id like to switch to as well...Wil lswitching the rears to front and vice versa eliminate the "pushed out wheels?
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Won’t be affected and it does widen front stance a tad
not much to be worried about
4. Do as you please up to you just know the offset is tad bit different

So I might be wrong, but just to clarify....and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but.......
I think the stock, front GTA wheels WILL hit the LS1 calipers. Not due to offset, as it's the same as IROC and Formula wheels, but that the "spokes" are just a different design, and happen to hit. The fix would be to add a spacer, but this pushes the wheel out about .25". The rear GTA wheels, are ever so slightly different in how they were cast, and of course like IROC and Formula wheels, have a +16 offset. If you use REAR wheels on the front, you need a .25" spacer to put the wheels back to the proper "0mm" offsett that front thirdgen wheels require, but because the rear wheels are cast slightly differently, the spokes do just barely clear the LS1 calipers. It's not the rear offset difference that makes them work, it's that the rears just happen to be made in a way that they don't interfere.
Again.....correct me if I'm wrong, but that's how I understand it.

I'll look into it more for sure but hat you're saying is, so if you use the rear GTA wheels with the 0.25 spacer up front, and put the front GTA wheels on back... they'll basically look "fine" / stock, and you wont have them look like they are sticking out?
The guy in this thread never posted pics but apparently they looked horrible to him:
I know the lip is different on front / rear GTA rima, and I recal thinking "it would look better with the other lip in back" so swapping them front / rear wont be a problem.. I just don;t wnat the tires sticking past my fenders etc... That happened to my S10 whaen I did lift spindles lol
I have four rear wheels and LS1 front brakes. Had to use the factory rear spacer (my car came with rear drums, so there was a spacer there from the factory) up front for clearance. FWIW, the way it sits now, the front and rear track are the same. Here's a current pic:
Let's not conflate issues.
On the BACK. You can run FRONT wheels on the back. Fairly common. They stick out an extra 16mm, which is about .25". It's no more than when guys run the new 17" reproduction IROC/GTA/Firehawk wheels. Easy enough to test fit. Ultimately a personal preference.
On the FRONT. rt66er said it best. Spacer up front with factory REAR wheels. Same wheels you got, some brakes ya got!
Sweet! thansk guys! the pics help a lot!! (Ive never seen that color GTA rm) and if anything i can find some extra rear GTA rims if needed 025is not really much at all.
I got the factory spacers.. so i'll just run the backs up front with spacers and throw the fronts on the back... . I doubt that 0.25 wil lbother me.. i can test fit it on back too!
Now all I have to do is the actual brake upgrade lol

your right on the spacer up front but assumed that was common knowledge on the offset
