Just got IROC but JVC headunit has no Audio Output!!!
Hi guys, the Iroc I recently got has a JVC KD-S5050 headunit on it. The power works on it, all the buttons work and everything seems to be fine, except for the no audio!
At first I thought it must have some hidding option I'm not hitting, but no matter what the audio wasnt working. When I asked the previous owner about this, he said he wasn't sure why, since he didn't own it when it was installed and it never worked for him.
So, what can it be? I'm going to take it out to see if the speakers are even hooked up to it, but if they are what can be causing this?
Oh, and about removing the bezel to remove the headunit... on a 1990 IROC, 3 of the screws on the bezel are easily accessed, but the one on the top left is covered due to the part of the dash that has the cig lighter on it, is there any easy way to access this screw other than removing the entire front dash (the one under the steering wheel) ?
Thanks!

I would check the speaker wires first. If it's like mine, no harness was used when installing the deck, splice and tape.
Just remove that screw with a screwdriver. That worked for me...

ya check your connections on the head unit to your speakers. Make sure all the speakers are the right colors to the unit etc. Maybe its just an RCA head unit with no preamp speakers? Let us know.

I checked the speakers, they are actually in there, BUT now that i think about it, if it had an aftermarket stereo it might have also had aftermarket speakers, so the guy could have taken out the aftermarkets and put the stocks back in, and didn't bother to connect them... so I'll check that out also.

i know on a couple of the jvc digifine series headunits there is a internal amp option. it may be switched off, especially if the previous owner was using amps to power their speakers. i know thats how i have my sh909 setup. check jvc's website for a manual to see if your model had the same option

the top left screw is fake.
Take a 9 volt square battery and touch the two speaker wires from the back of the deck. if you hear a poping sound when you do that, the speaker is wired up. if not, check or run new wire to the speakers.
Call JVC if the speakers are hooked up and it still doesnt work, or check their website for the manual.

mine is kinda buried in one of the menus. so yes, its done with the buttons. but since each deck is different, the manual is the only way to know if you have the feature and how to use it.

I went through the manual and it didn't mention anything like what you described, so I doubt my deck has that option, I'm just hoping its speaker connections.
I Install at a Best Buy. I have put a lot of those decks in new from the box and they don't work. Jvc pumps a lot of these decks out bad from the factory. Check your speakers, one may be grounding out causing the radios amp not to have any output, its like a protect mode. Also you could check the speakers with a 9v but recommend buying a digital multimeter from sears or something. I got one for 15$. With the meter check for continuity, the meter will make a tone letting you know the ciruit is complete, but also will tell you the ohms of the circuit (resistance). If the number comes up more than 8 or a lot less that speaker is blown.
The ohms should be as close to 8 as possible ( thats if they are aftermarket speakers.)

What store do you work at. I know the manager at your service center, he would love to know what you’ve said here……

Well I checked it out today, speakers are in and do work. So I pulled the head unit out and its connected via a harness, no splicing or anything. Yet the power on the head unit works, so does the display, its just the audio.
What can be the problem, probably something wrong with the head unit right? If so fixing it is probably unlikely

To bad you don't live closer, I'd fix it for you (and some money), but it's probably not worth the cost to repair and the cost of shipping.
With out looking at it I's say around $80.00 to$100.00 for the repair plus shipping. Not to mention those have the new CD mech and it's junk to.
Get on ohm meter and check the resistance of the speakers as seen at the harness and let me know what you have.

Yea it wouldnt be worth fixing, it cost $100 new anyway. I don't know anyone with an ohm meter, so I think I'll just buy another unit and hope its not the cars wiring or something. And for fun, I'll try to fix this unit.
sounds like your amp inside the deck is shot/blown. I have seen this a many decks like my previous Pioneer Premier that I got for 10 bucks. I put a $3 part in it and it worked. I'm not sure where it is on the JVC but if you pull off the inspection cover or the top (whatever come off) look for a black crater that has a funny burnt smell to it....

Does anyone have a pic of what the amp might look like? I took off the back and front cover and I couldn't see the black crater like thing. I did get some sticky weird white goo on me though, nasty.
