Anyone have PIONEER DEH-P77DH GM-FIT CD PLAYER?

Anyone have this or another Pioneer GM-fit player? If so, would you recommend it? Any fit issues?

Thanks!

Car: No F-Body Currently :(
Engine: none
Transmission: none
Axle/Gears: still...none...(ugh)
I have the p47 gm fit and love it. It is a pretty clean sounding unit, and I like the mini eq that it has. I have it in my truck now, and am going to buy another one for my IROC. I like the large buttons, volume ****, and display. So, I guess i am saying I like it a lot.

EDIT.....oh, yea, no fitment issues I can remember when I installed it into my 91 formula.

does this mean that it will flush mount and not stick out past the radio bezel?? that would be amazing, because I think our cars don't have enough room...

I agree

I love this cd player. I had it in my lebaron and it worked great till I got hit. It withstood getting thrown out of the dash and into the passenger seat and now lies in my 89 firebird (funny how chrysler and GM both had the same stupid 1.5DIN idea ). It plays all my burned cds. I like all the features it comes with and it is awesome to read; being so low to the ground the large display really helps. Id definitely recommend it.

Well ... I ordered it last weekend and should get it around Friday. I'll let you guys know how the install goes. Sounds like everyone installed them in Firebirds. I'm installing in a 92 Camaro. Hoping there won't be any depth issues.

it depends on what you're looking for out of it.

price wise, it's nowhere near as featured as you'd expect.

if you want a BIG cheap radio, then it's probably exactly what you're looking for.

why not get a decent radio for the same money, and have a storage pocket?

I have to say that it is definitely not a "cheap radio", and half the reason I bought it was the fact that it was "BIG". It fills the stock location. Although it might not have all the features of say an Alpine, I still feel it is a good choice.

at at least plays mp3s right? it may not have any of the advanced features such as 13 band eq or Automatic Time Alignment like my pioneer... but as long as it plays mp3s and/or wma files, you're most likely set for a while...

It doesn't play MP3s and WMA, however I love mine. I didn't pay full retail price as I got it off E-bay, but I deffinately love the way it looks compared to a single DIN unit.

if it fit in pefectly AND played mp3's... and wasn't an arm and a leg, it would be a best-seller in my book

by fitting in perfectly I mean that you don't need a mounting harness

Just installed the unit today. Fit was perfect -- very satisfied in that department. After I have used it a few days I will write a review and post it.

Thanks for everyone's comments!

When I bought my car it came with the cd player but no instructions. How do you set the clock? I don't feel like paying $10 +SH for a new instruction manual.

I have a pioneer and i had the same issue bought the car with the deck in there already and the clock was wrong. After some trial and error fiddling i managed to figure it out. dunno if this'll work for you as it did for me but give it a try: hold the clock button and with it held press the number keys. I think it was 1 and 2 for hour and minutes respectively. not sure but thats how u do it if you have a similar deck.

on my pioneer, and many other decks... you hold source til it turns off... then you push some other button--- like "func" or display or something for 3 seconds, and it enters a programming menu... self-explanitory from there...

The 1.5 din work differently, atleast my 55 does, not 100% sure about the 47 and 77. But the 55, you hold down the clock button and use I think 1 and 2 (as stated above) to change it.

hey boingo do you mean it fit perfectly and did not require a mounting harness? it fit just like the stock radio? Does not protrude from the radio bezel at all?

Scrap Maker -

Yes! Fit is perfect! The front mounting brackets are included and I was able to secure the front using in the factory holes. It lined up properly to the bottom left and top right holes (i.e. I couldn't get all 4 mounting screws in, but 2 is good enough to hold it securely). Better yet, it has a place on the back to attach the plastic rear stabilizer rod you will find on the back of your factory unit. I am not sure why they didn't include that rod with the Pioneer, but I just took it off of my factory deck. If you don't know what I am talking about, there is a bracket inside the console that sits behind the radio. When you put the stereo in the consolve the rod sticking out the back of the stereo slips into the bracket to stabilize the stereo from behind. In a nutshell, the radio is well secured without my having to modify anything. And YES the bezel goes right over it, the radio doesn't stick out!

It has been raining here so I haven't listened to it much (don't drive the convertible in the rain), so I can't really give you an evaluation of the deck yet, but here are my thoughts:

1. Love the fit! Very, very easy to install!!!
2. Wish it came in jet black. It looks fine in the dash, but it is gray and dash is black.
3. As far as I can tell, the radio lights can't be changed to match the dash lights. Bummer!
4. Volume **** feels kind of cheap.
5. Not real crazy about the controls.
6. Detachable face comes on and off smoothly -- no clearance issues with bezel.

I think you can get good sound out of any decent brand CD player, so I think I will be satisfied with this unit, despite the few things I wasn't thrilled with. My main goal was to have a good quality CD player that fit in the dash without a bunch of work and headaches and this did it.

If you buy one, here are some tips:

1. BUY THE ADAPTER KIT FROM WAL-MART!!! I was in a hurry to get the radio in and skipped buying the kit. I cut off the factory jacks and spliced the wires. I didn't think much about it because I figured I was saving a few bucks. But then I realized that the GM antenna cable would not fit the Pioneer deck. So I had to buy an antenna adaptor anyway and ... guess what ... it is included in the adaptor kit! Best to just buy the whole kit ($8) and make the whole job easier while avoiding cutting any wires in your console.

2. Before screwing in the bezel, look to see if there are any gaps between the edge of the deck and the bezel. If there are, take off the bezel and run a peice of electrical tape along the edge of the deck where the gap was, so that the edge of the tape extends out past the edge of the deck a little ways. Make sure the tape is straight. When you replace the bezel, the gap will be gone. (This may sound confusing, but I think it will make sense when the time comes). I have done this several times with gaps in interior trim on cars with black interior. If it is behind a trim piece, it will look like part of the interior and no one will be able to tell it is just a piece of electrical tape.

I'll write more about the stereo once I've had a chance to use it a bit.

imo the 1.5 din aftermarket ones look funny.... and for the price you can get a better featured din unit that you can transfer into just about any car.
