Just looking for input...preferebly nothing over over the cost of $300 - $400 (american). I've heard good stuff about Kicker's ZR240....have no idea the price or output of these though....any other suggestions...

wait a minute here, not more than 300-400 for an amp. you just spent that much on those subs, each, unless you got one hellva deal. those subs are very expensive, and thus require an very high powered amp to deliver the power needed for the amount of bass those subs can produce. i reccomend something that can easily push 200 watts RMS AT 4OHMS a channel. a good amp that can push that will easily cost 400 bux. and thats rated power, not max power.

Dan's right. You don't buy a Lamborghini and put Pep Boys tires on it. A pair of solobaracs needs a LOT of power. If they are both 4 ohm subs, you also need an amp that can handle a 2 ohm bridged load. A Kicker ZR600 or ZR1000 would make a good companion to those subs.

Hehe...I have a McIntosh sitting in my closet if you're interested...

I won't put an amp that expensive in my car while still at UMass (I bought it used and planned on keeping it for my eventual IROC). I'm neurotic enough with the Eclipse in my RS at school! Email me if you'd like. It can run 400x2 RMS, but be warned...this thing is friggen huge (has meters), and there's no way I'm selling it for anything close to $400. But if you want some kick, it'll work!

These Solobarics are not new....but are unused, still in the box. A good buddy bought them in Florida and then got his car stolen, so he never got to use them. I guess they are either the 1997 or 1998 model....does anyone know how much these can handle? I bought both 12" Subs and well made custom made box to fit the exact space requirements of the Solobarics for $475 (Canadian) so about $320 (American). Is this a good deal?

I've heard good stuff about McIntosh amps....very expensive though, Kicker amps are also supposed to be kick *** ....

Yeah, that sounds like a pretty good deal, considering the new solo's are like $350 (US) and I'm going to buy one of last years model (New in box, from the dealer, for my second car) for like $229 (Clearance)

I have a single 12" solo (one of the new square ones) in my Z28, and I have a kicker DX700 running it. The amp is a powerhouse, pushing a peak of 748 watts (As tested by Kicker). I rocks pretty hard, but could take much more. I'm sure you would need close to that, if not more power for a pair of the old round ones. The amp was somewhere around $850 (US). I would really like to throw a DX1400 at my sub, but they haven't shipped them yet (Last I checked anyway!)

Block is in shop!

Starting to look like the Kicker poster child!

With a amp that big, would I need to upgrade my alternator and battery?

if the amp is large, like over 500 watts rms it would be wise to buy a capacitator first, if you still get the dim lights, then try upgrading the alt and battery. that is a smokin deal on new solobarics. here in cali those things retail for around 300-350 bux each. and you gotta a box for only 320, sounds too good to be true. you should thank your friend for giving you such a great deal. since you saved so much on the subs/box, buy a quality amp. u alrady have sum kicker subs, so buy a kicker amp. ive found that matched components seem to work best with each other. good luck
