Whats up wit the stock stereo?...

I have an 89, I believe I have the stock radio, its certainly not aftermarket, but I also don't think that it was stock for my car, maybe another I dunno, its a Delco type tho. Well any way, I was hoping for a good CD player for XMas, but nope, so I'm still stuck with the cr@ppy stock one, those bass and treble controls hardly even work.

But I do have a Sony CD player that has one of those "Car Ready" kits, I've always used this for many cars (where you put a tape in the tape deck but its connected to a CD player, ya kno). But I go to try it in my car and nothing. I plug the power cord into the cig lighter, having the radio on, put the tape, hit play on the CD. I hear nothing come out of the speakers, and all the radio does is spit my tape back. As if it doesn't read it or something, I dunno, this sucks, Pop music on the radio is so bad , especially when ur in the mood for some good music, if ya could help it would be appreciated. I like saving money, I don't want to shell out 200 dollaz just for a CD player, I like performance mods betta, but I don't want to go insane listening to radio cr@p, and having to constantly changing stations. Any ideas or thoughts of how to maybe fix this, has this happend to ya?

i feel for you man, i had a non functioning tape player in my camaro and then in my current firebird when i bought them. So dont feel bad about it. I actually tried to fix it but to no prevail, too many springs and plastic crap that when i messed with woulld probably never go back in correctly.

My camaro didnt even take tapes in, just shot them out like i was pushing them against a spring. Then my firebird would take them in, hold it for liek 5 seconds and then shoot them out .. i think. memory is fuzzy.

live with the whitney houstin pop for a bit till you get $$ or bug mom and dad enough for it. Get your self a good cd player, not that Jensen or Prestige stuff. Be a lot better, louder, clearer, easier, and better looking then the stock one.

BTW ... what part on NJ are you from

Deadtrend that is an AWESOME looking car. Has to be the best looking Firechicken on this board. In my opinion anyways. If i had a Firebird i would want it to look somewhat like yours. Wouldn't want to copy you completely. I like the the base model rather then the TA's cause they didn't have all the GFX. And those 90-92 or 91-92 front clips make them look more like a 4th gen cars. Anyrate cool car man.

If I were you, I would go onto e-Bay and but a used CD player for about 80 bucks. It won't be the best deck, but it will still sound nicer than your CD player to tape player contraption, and you can listen to your cds and not the radio crap whenever you want.

Deadtrend,

Sounds like a broken belt, due to age, very cheap and easy to replace!

when I got my car 2 months ago the tape player wouldn't work either. I didn't try messing with it( I just put in a new cd deck) but I've heard our car decks are bad for breaking.
