Xplod CDX-L550X supposed to sound like tin ?

I recently upgraded my stereo and installed a Sony Xplod CDX-L550X in my GTA. I liked the fact that the orange lighting on the unit matched my Pontiac dash lighting.

I'm not very happy with the sound. It drives my subwoofer OK, but it sounds like tin out of the dash and B-pillar speakers.

Even when I turn on the loudness and adjust the EQ for low treble and full bass, the regular speakers sound horrible.

When I turn the volume up, The sub sounds great, but I get my ears ripped off by the high treble out of the regular speakers.

I don't have a fancy sound system... You can see what I have installed here:

Anyone else with the same head unit have this problem ??? Sony is a pretty good brand.. I'm thinking the unit is defective.

Nope.. It isn't too late to exchange. I was just posting to see if other CDX-L550X head units are the same.. If so, I'll get something else..

The problem is alot of people think cause Sony is a name brand and widely respected in electronics that they must make the best head units. Wrong, they don't theres are kinda like at the beging of the list on the good quality. Simply becuase theose heads are one of the 50 million products they make, so they problaly don't spend as much research and design on the units as say someone who soley makes car audio products.

But dont' qoute me, this is my take on it.

I'm no fan of sony, but their decks shouldn't make a gross distortion of the sound like you seem to be experiencing. For casual listening, they sound basically identical to any other deck.

If you bought a wiring harness, it would be a 5 minute swap.
