Time to update the infotainment system

So I've debated doing this for a while, so I decided to give it a try. I'm putting in a Android head unit.

I've ordered a 3d print of the 2din bezel but it will not be here until this weekend. It will not have the gaps at the sides like the 1.5 din bezel does. And since the radio body is a single din it fits well in the pod.

Here is a test fit. I want the screen flush so I will make a mount that sits the radio deep into the pod.

Re: Time to update the infotainment system

definitely gonna follow this thread... Are the screen and head from different manufacturers or is that a system?

It's a single unit, but the screen is removable so you could mount separate.

Re: Time to update the infotainment system

I've seen people use raspberry pi and a screen and cobbler them together. This is easier.

Back in 99 I had a mp3 player in the car... As in a lcd, track ball, and a old computer tower in the trunk... Man how tech has improved.

3d printed part came in, you could almost use as printed. This is the 2din version

That looks great.

I'd love to do this. If you can just get a durable, piano black finish for the background, and find a way to reproduce the grid, it would look like O.E.

Re: Time to update the infotainment system

They guy that designed the 3d printed sketch that I used has made it look almost 100% stock https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/car-...vement-3d.html he has the templates to have the squares cut out and you can sand and paint it to get the gloss black finish.

But my car is far from OEM (LS1, auto converted to a T56, leather seats and console from a 4th gen, custom made door cards and headliner -- non of which are stock colors (they are all greys though) I'm actually thinking soft touch coating on it if I can find a small enough can as a gallon of the stuff is a few hundred dollars.

Re: Time to update the infotainment system

That looks sharp,I just installed a 2DIN dvd/cd unit in mine with a 3D printed bezel.
I did not finish mine,so far I just left the printed rough finish.

Re: Time to update the infotainment system

Not quite done yet. These Android radios have their quarks but as long as you accept that the work pretty good.

So full list.
Joying radio
A 12vdc USB hub
USB obd 2 scanner
Dash cam fed into radio
Backup camera
3d printed bezel
Wireless steering wheel controls... Debating if I want to recess those into the center cover.
4th gen console not that matters.

The Bluetooth obd2 scanner and the radio was flakey, the phone works fine. The USB hub gives more ports and fast charging to the phone.

Fits nicely where the old cruise and speedometer buffer lived

4th gen console works well with the t56

Without bezel

Sitting in place still need to make brackets to mount it

Torque working with the USB obd2 adapter. Only good if LS swapped or other obd2 setup.

Trying out the non lumbar power 4th gen seats

Re: Time to update the infotainment system

How's the durability on the spring clips? I've been printing these for awhile and found that they can break easily depending on the orientation of the print. Haven't bothered to check the commercial services when i already have my own designs.

I haven't figured out how to get the piano black finish yet, but the grid can be printed easily enough.
