How do I work the stereo?
How do I work the stereo?
I just got an '86 Camaro and it didn't come with the manual. It did come with a factory Tape/AM/FM Stereo. And i was just wondering if anybody could tell me how to set the clock and the radio stations presets on it. I've been trying but i can't figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For the factory delco radio to set the time all you do is shut the power off on the radio and hit set then use the scan/seek buttons to change the hour and minute, and then for the presets you just tune to the channel you want to set then hit set and push the preset number, simple.

Ya, it's a delco but i don't have a set button on the '86 model.
below my volume control it says prog - rcl. next to the picture which means when you push the button in.

The prog-rcl is used when you want the auto-reverse to flip to the other side of the tape, or when you want to toggle the display from time display to radio station display.
Is this the factory Camaro radio that has the thin-looking amber display? I remember seeing one in a Firebird once;
don't quote me on it, but I think you set the time with the radio off, holding in the seek & scan buttons until the display gives you a flash, then use the scan button for the hour and the seek for the minute.... I'm unsure, it was 5 years ago, but try it. I do know that some of those radios had no clock at all, but I think that was just the ones with no tape player.

I remember a SET button from my 'ol '86 radio. Yours doesn't have the 5-band equalizer on it, does it? The SET button was a tiny little square, I think to the right of the display.
Well, if you do figure it out, guess what- you have more than 4 presets. Yep! You have three more. You can press "between" two of the buttons, so you're pressing both buttons at once- and that's another preset. Press buttons one and two at the same time, and that's preset #5. 2 & 3 at the same time give you #6, and 3 & 4 at the same time give you #7. You can set these for stations, too.
I wonder if GM designed it that way, or if the circuitry inside just happened to work like that. If the circuitry just happened to work, than it was some really smart work.

it doesn't have an equilizer. And no set button at all.
It's gotta be able to set the time and presets... I'm thinking about disconnecting and reconnecting the battery at midnight. That way when i reconnect it the time will be right. I still won't have my presets set the way i would like, however.

Tech-21, can you post up a pic of this beast for us? If I get a look at this thing maybe i'll remember how it works. If there's no setter button, try tuning the radio to the station you want then hold down the preset that you want it on; I know this doesn't seem like the way a GM radidio sets, but it's the only way I could think of trying it without seeing the radio's face & controls.
