JBL 6421F 4x6 fit in 88’ Firebird dash?

Like the title says I’ve been looking at replacing front speakers and crutchfield claims these fit, I know the Firebird has tighter clearance in the dash than the Camaro on the driver side. I’ve been reading lots of threads but haven’t found an answer. I know the Kenwoods fit but would like to run JBL front and back if possible but I don’t want to hack up anything to make it fit.

I’ve got the JBL GTO6428’s in the dash of my 89. Had to do a little tweaking and the grilles just barely touch the tweeter. Maybe compare the depth specs to the model you’re considering.

I’ve been looking over specs and can’t get as much info as I want. I really don’t want to get this apart and have to return something that doesn’t fit if I don’t have to. Might just go with Pioneer because I know from reviews they drop right in, I’ve used them in the past in other cars with good results but I’m not a big audio guy.

According to Crutchfield they fit without modification

I spoke with them today and they said the same, I am inclined to believe them at this point. I just worried because of the age of the car and the difference between the Camaro dash set up that the details might slip through the cracks with age.

I think you'll be golden, I used to do a lot of car stereo installs on the side and they never steered me wrong, never had to modify anything, their directions are spot on and included, as well as adapters and such.

They really do seem to make it easy. Will likely order them up soon, maybe make it a winter project.

Re: JBL 6421F 4x6 fit in 88’ Firebird dash?

I wound up going with the JBL 6421F and the JBL Club 9632. I had to go with the 9632 as the other was sold out but got a Black Friday discount on the more expensive speaker and was only a few dollars more than the other ones.

For those curious the 6421F fit the Firebird dash speakers, the driver side was tight but with a slight twist it went right in and worked great without having to bust the dremel out. Passenger side went right in with no issue.

The install kit and instructions Crutchfield sent made the install a breeze, easy connections with no splicing. Can’t wait to really break them in next Spring, they already sound great.
