Traditional dual 10 inch subs and box?

I see everyone using the well to put their subs in. I'm looking for a really cheap way of putting subs in as I just want a bit of bass. Nothing fancy, nothing expensive, I don't care if it rattles honestly.

My question is, why cant i just put a traditional dual 10" sub box in the trunk? Not in the well but on top where there is flat space. Has anyone done this and would it work?

I tried measuring out the dimensions and it seems it might fit but really snug. Wondering if anyones done it.

I'm talking about a setup like this: https://www.visions.ca/product-detail/53665/soundstage_bass_party_pack_system_with_dual_10_subwoofer_vented_enclosure_and_mono_amplifier?categoryId=0&sku=SS210PP

As u can see I'm on a tight budget but don't mind if it doesn't sound the best. Just want a bit of bass.

I had the Infinity Primus 1207B in that spot, right up until someone decided they wanted it and broke in. You can put it there, but you're just advertising at that point. Putting it in the well, or doing a more involved stealth install will make it less of a target.

I got a really loud alarm system. my friends subs set it off before. Tapping the car the wrong way will set it off. But besides that, the car is in a garage and if it's out it'd be during the day. I'd doubt someone would want $2-300 subs but if they do then have at it. I'm just wondering if they will fit. Has anyone here got them to fit?

That infinity primus 1207B is a slanted sub? Would a straight back sub like the one I sent fit? Did u have any pics of ur setup? Do u think a straight back one would fit based off how ur Primus fit?

Re: Traditional dual 10 inch subs and box?

I think a straight backed one would be tight, you'd just have to compare to the specific box you're looking at. I think just about any slanted sub will fit, facing the glass, so you could do a wider one if you wanted more airspace inside.

I don't have any pictures, unfortunately. Don't be shocked by what people will steal, that thing was only $120.

Thanks for the help! I might just grab this set and see if it fits, if not then I'll just return it.

Yea you're right people will steal anythina. I plan on tinting the rear hatch soon anyways so hopefully that will help idk.

Re: Traditional dual 10 inch subs and box?

I had a standard (non slanted) box with 2 alpine 12”s but had to trim it down to fit in that area. It’s tricky to measure since the hatch curves on the sides. I now run just 1 12” alpine in the well and it’s plenty for my needs. Here’s maybe a recommendation that fits the same bill with less space (and still cea compliant and might be cheaper)

1- 500w rms @ 2ohm 10” sub dvc
https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item...VSW104-v2.html

1- 500w rms amp @2ohm
https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item...VX-NDA102.html

also, I’ve had slanted boxes fit nice in the hatch area, single or dual subs.

where did u have to trim the sub box? Around the edges where the glass curves in on the sides?

That sub looks good but I would need a box to put it in. Any recommendations on a good box? Maybe one that fits in the well would work better?

Re: Traditional dual 10 inch subs and box?

It was too hard to do edges so for a quick fix I had to cut off 2” from the back of box to slim the whole box. I’ll look at sub specs and see what’s the ideal sub space needed.

Hmm I wonder how big your sub box was to begin with. I know 12 inch sub boxes can be bigger than 10s. Do u know which box you had? If so then I can compare the dimensions to these subs I'm looking at and get an idea as to whether they may fit.

If I have to cut then I might as well just go with a well setup. Do you have a pic of ur setup right now?

Re: Traditional dual 10 inch subs and box?

The sub has a mounting depth of 5” and needs atleast 0.70 ft^3 for sealed box. If you don’t make a box then this should fit, you may want to double check measurements but this has a mounting depth of 5.5” and 0.75 ft^3. A little close on mounting depth but should work. You’ll lose some space from the sub mounted so polyfill can help in this scenario.

if space saving is not a problem, then a standard box could fit here as well.

I don’t recall box I had because I bought it used but it wasn’t custom. 12” subs will usually need more space so bigger box. To maximize sound go a little bigger on box and still keep stealth. Angled/slanted truck boxes work back there but the well is a little stealthier without worrying about the hatch glass or box sliding around as much. Somehow I don’t have a picture of my setup lol as I usually have tons of pictures of car and upgrades. I’ll try to post if I can.

Ah I see. Maybe I will start looking around for a shallow sub box or truck box and use that setup! Thank you for the help!

Isn't that box too tall? 15inches seems like it would be too much? Or should i lay it down? Or put it in the well maybe. That box looks pretty good though!

Re: Traditional dual 10 inch subs and box?

Two 10" subwoofers in the trunk well. Since its a vert there's not enough room for a bigger box. Im not looking for huge bass anymore and it sounds better then decent. Ive also got my amps under there.
I used to have a sub in the spare tire well, but i wanna put my spare back in there.

Re: Traditional dual 10 inch subs and box?

Sorry for the delay. In case this helps, here’s my setup as it sits now. Excuse the stickers lol as my kids helped me with this temporary box. My goal is to build a spare tire sub box just haven’t had the time. It’s an alpine type e 12” with amp connected to box sub facing rear of car.

damn that looks pretty good and doesnt take up as much space as i thought it would. The subs are facing the rear? Any reason for that? Really nice setup bro!

Re: Traditional dual 10 inch subs and box?

Thanks! Just easier that way. To be honest facing them up would probably give you the best sound from there. 10s are a nice size for that area facing up and staying deep in well. Having subs on top and well, the well saves space and you have less worries with hatch glass and box sliding.
