What ohms for 1988 gta UQ7? Current setup in thread

I had my head unit rebuilt, stock amps
What speaker and subwoofer ohms should I be running with the UQ7 setup? Currently sitting in my garage are
4x6 front Kicker DS 30watt rms @4 ohms
4x6 rear Kicker DS 30watt rms @ 4 ohms
4" Goldwood sound 204/8s subwoofer 70watts rms @8 ohms
Want to make sure they are actually going be be a good sound before I install.

Re: What ohms for 1988 gta UQ7? Current setup in thread

for the stock UQ7 system Fronts should be 10 ohms rear 4 ohms and the subs 4 ohm I currently have fronts and rears at 10 ohms and stock 4 ohm subs.
I had read that it's ok to go from 4 ohms to 10 but not 10 ohms to 4,I forget where i read it ,I don't know how true that statement is,but my radio sounds great with the front and rears with 10 ohm speakers.I thinks it all has to do with the stock amp,not sure.
Good Luck with your build.

U can use 8 ohm instead of 10 ohm speakers, but cannot go from 8/10 to 4 ohm speakers. I have the stock speakers in my '84 T/A & sounds ok to me.

The factory head unit has 2 AMP chips; 1 chip that powers the 10 OHM front and 4 OHM rear 4x6s on the LEFT, & 1 chip that powers the 10 OHM front and 4 OHM rear 4x6 on the RIGHT. The 2 4 OHM Subwoofers are powered by the UQ7 Subwoofer AMP.

The subwoofers are a bad fit for the subwoofer hole. Anyone know of some subwpofers that will mount to the box mount spots?

I ended up repairing the foam surrounds on my factory speakers. As that worked, I never did try the aftermarket options.

Re: What ohms for 1988 gta UQ7? Current setup in thread

I'm still on the hunt for some replacement subwoofers. Saw someone recommend fiero speakers replacements from Rodney Dickman. They don't have any.
I don't have my originals because sometime during its life someone replaced them with 6x9s. So kinda at a dead end.

Re: What ohms for 1988 gta UQ7? Current setup in thread

is there an aftermarket amp that can be used with the UQ7 subwoofers? i have two factory UQ7 amps, but neither one seems to be working. wondering if i can use something modern instead.
