draining battery
hey guys i have 2 12" MTX 4000 series subs in a custom box in my car hooked up to a 600msx amp. well it all works great without a problem. but my battery has died twice now and its a new battery. also it did this on the old battery once. is there anyway my system is draining power when my car is off? i don't understand how it could be but i am open to suggestions. also i have an AIWA head unit ans when u take the face plate off theres a little blinking red light so it looks liek i have a security system i guess. well coudl this be drawing power?
that little blinking light wouldnt be enough to kill your battery. The only thing I can think of it that your remote wire to your amp is some how hooked up wrong, causing the amp to stay on all the time. I have no idea

well i have a toggle switch hooked up to the remote wire so i can turn it all off if i don't feel like haveing subs on. my amp also has a red light on the top and it goes off when the car is off.

well when i bought the car a year ago the lady said she just had a new alt. put in so i don't think thats it. i was messin with my door locks for about 2 hours tryin to get them to work, do u think i could of drained the battery doin that or no. also the car started up right after i was done and then liek a week and a half later it was about to die then started then like a week later it just was dead. oh by the way i don't have my licence the car has sat for a while due to inspection or else i woudl drive it with my permitt like i used to
After checking the battery, invest in a capacitor, a .5 farad handles 500 watts, the 1 farad handles up to 1000 watts. This keeps battery drain down by storing a charge inside the capacitor which is drawn on as opposed to your battery suffering the abuse.

A cap wont really "save" the battery. Its a good investment to stop the headlights from dimming and keep giving the amps the power you need.
I once ran my amp powered by a cap only, and at low volume it stayed on for about 1 second flat. But, it never hurts to heave one, and i think my subs *** a better sound with one.

get the battery tested. the auto places around here do that for free. you can also get your alt done too. before investing in a cap, put the money toward upgrading the wiring under the hood. upgrading the connections between the chassis, alt, and battery from 8 ga to 4 ga can help quite a bit.
I just saw this on another post. I am not sure what they are called exactly, but get a power tester to test the output coming from the battery when the car is off, the pull fuse by fuse until the current stops drawing, then u can narrow it down easier.
