choke sticking on startup

I have an 87 LG4 (non cc quadrajet) and lately the chokes been acting up when I start it. First of all of its cold out (like -5C or colder) it'll start right up and then try and stall once like the choke is opening up right away. If I've driven somewhere then I leave the car sitting for a while, like maybe half an hour or more when I go to start it up the choke sticks closed and the car starts missing and flooding until I give it a bunch of gas and clear it out. Sometimes it will stay closed and I actually have to shut it off get out and move the choke myself (which stays closed as soon as I let go of it) but it will usually start up alright when i get back in.
It used to never do this. The car would start right up no problem no matter what. Hope someone can help me. I'm probably leaving out details but I have to get some sleep right now. Thanks

sounds like moisture could be freezing on the choke linkage clean it with some carb cleaner and drop a few drops of 30 weight on the linkage pivot points. If the blades open too soon you probably have the choke set to lean for the cold weather.

Verify the choke pull-off is working and that you have 12V at the choke connector. The choke pull-off will force the choke open partway, regardless of temperature--kind of a 'limit' on how far the choke can be close when the engine is running. If it's not working, you have the exact same symptoms you seem to have.

I have a simialar problem
I have a non comp controled qjet too......My choke pull off is working fine,,,,I tested the choke with a light and its getting power.

Mine will runn fine for about 2-3 mins in the winter then idle down and stall......
In the summer it just likes to stall unless its been running lately....but usually runns ok after driving it for about 5-10mins.
what could be my prob???

me too

i also have this problem. the chokes on q jets just seem to stick. i have an 87 camaro its a cc q jet but...the computer really doesnt do anything anymore. my choke sticks in the morning or after i havent driven it for about 2 hours.
when you get in your car before you start the car.......punch the gas pedal twice. that should open the choke and loosen it so it will start and close it after it goes down to idle. this works for me. hope it helps you guys.

Sounds like the choke is too loose(lean) and is kicking off too soon. Richen it a little bit.

Running a CC q-jet without the computer isn't good. When the engine is cold, opening up the throttle one time(no need to punch it twice) will 'set'(close) the choke and fast idle. The throttle doesn't 'loosen' the choke. The throttle doesn't move the choke. The choke is moved open and shut by a bi-metallic spring. Opening up the throttle allows the spring to shut the choke--assuming the spring is cold. As the car warms up, the choke gradually opens

Ya punching the gas twice will just make it flood worse on me. Anyways, lately the cars been running much better. It's up to 10deg celsius and I put my open element air cleaner on. Now I just give it one shot of gas in the morning and it starts up instantly and doesn't stall or bog at all. Starts fine the rest of the day too.
