vacuum secondary tuning, HELP!

alright, i have a 600 cfm vs holley on my car. it has jet plates front and back. i currently have 65's up front, and am unsure about the back, but i think it's in the 75 range. i don't have my jets here with me so i can't change the back just yet. my kit is with my dad at a race in Liousianna.

my problem:
when i punch the throttle, whether cruising or from a stand still, the motor would seem to "load up" like it was getting too much fuel. well, we just recently installed a 2400stall converter and we (my father and I) think that the secondaries are opening too fast. so, i ordered a BG vacuum seondary spring kit. there is a chart with them that says what is what. well, i pulled out the spring i had in there and i noticed it was a brown spring, which is almost the heaviest. so i slapped a black spring in and *presto* problem solved. well, kinda. i don't think that i need to run the heaviest spring. is it possible that when the secondaries opened before, that they were in fact opening at the right time, but the jets are too big, loading the motor with too much fuel? would it act the same as described?

just throwing ideas around, i would like to get a double pumper but funds say NO right now. any ideas to fixing my delema is appreciated, and i will be getting track time with the new combo hopefully next weekend.

it's more likely an ignition problem. ( secondary side) plugs, wires, cap , rotor. many many carburator problems are actually ignition problems.

Once you get that sorted out, tune the accelerator pump.
Start by correcting the bent acclelerator pump cam lever.

The jetting is fine as is.
Once you get these problems sorted out you'll fine you can use a much lighter sec vac spring.
Like the standard silver or the next lighter purple spring in the kit.

Ya but is it working right? Just cause it's new doesn't mean you don't have an ignition problem.

well, the wires look like they could probably be replaced, and i am getting an MSD 6al somtime next month, which i know will help some regardless. the idle is great and never acts like it's not firing, so...i assume it works. fowled some plugs back 4 months ago, but they were 1-2 ranges too cold, so it's got 4 month old plugs in it that are the right plugs (stock acdelco plugs) a couple of the wires are showing wear though, so i guess it's not all brand new, but it's pretty close, in the last 10K.

bascially, you think i am not getting enough spark for the fuel i am pushing into it, right? is that what your getting at? the msd box will help, and i'll get new plugs/wires when i order the box. it's got factory replacement cap/rotor and a relatively new Accel Supercoil.

cracked the back open on the carb tonight, it had 68's back there. i put 65's in it and was able to go to a brown spring. helped abit. seems to pull harder up top now.

Adding a MSD box will not cure a basic ignition problem.

Fix the secondary side of the ignition system and fix the accelorator pump linkage on the carb.
