L69 Confusion
well i have a 1983 Z28 with the L69 option. the car ran before it ran out of gas. i just put half a tank in and now it wont start. doesnt even get any ful to the carb..... and before when it ran it wouldnt revv above 25k. what i need to know is is there more than one fuel pump? how do i tell of there working? and also i noticed that there is a fuel pump-like-device. where the fuel filter on a FI camaro would be. but its bypassed. andy hekp would be great...

An L69 should have both the mechanical pump bolted in the usual spot on the block, and an electric pump in the tank.

The 83 L69 cars didn't have the electric fuel pump; at least, not originally. Just the block-mounted one. The block-nounted fuel pump is in the same place fuel pumps have been since 1955; I know of no cars that ever had a filter there.
The fuel filter is inside the fuel inlet nut, on the front of the carb. Take the fuel line off, with a 5/8" flare-nut wrench and a 1 open-end to hold the big nut still; the filter will fall out.
Most likely a bunch of crap got flushed out of the tank by running it dry, and it now needs a filter.
DO NOT try to remove the fuel line with a regular wrench, and DO NOT try to do it without a wrench holding the big nut still taht it screws into!!! Or, we will surely be seeing a post about "I stripped my line nut" or "I twisted and collapsed my fuel line" like what always happens when people do that.

Just a wild guess - but the "fuel pump like" device that's bypassed is probably an in-line fuel pump. If you are'nt getting any fuel the mechanical pump may have gone south or you sucked a lot of crap out of the tank when it ran out of gas.

I've heard conflicting reports as to whether or not L69's had the electric in-tank, so I'd not assume it doesn't have one. If you see something "by-passed", it's a pretty good guess some ham-fisted modifications have been made.

LOL I did that the first time I tryed replacing my filter. I think it was the first time it had even been replaced. I used two wrenches, but it was so tight i still ended up twisting and kinking the fuel line.

sounds like fuel filter/ rubber check valve on fuel filter...just rip off the rubber check vavle connected to the fuel filter in the carb.

Right, I keep thinking that all the L69s came with the electric pump from the factory and the LG4s had it added, but the recalls specify the L69 too.

'84 HO cars probably had the in-tank pump, but I know for a fact that it didn't for '83. I know this because I have an '83 HO, with only a mechanical pump, as Sofa already said, and he too has an '83 HO car I beleive.
