Weird Idle when hot
Hey,
I just rebuilt my holley carb 6210-3 spread bore dp (no choke) and it was running fine for a week until i noticed a weird high idle when my car gets hot. My car runs at 160 degrees F, and the holley carb is tuned to my engine specs. When i let my car idle up to temperature it idles fine at 750 rpm, but when i am cruising for periods of time, i find the idle jumps to 1350-1700 rpm. Then when i try to shut the car off it starts dieseling.
Also, timing is set at 17 degrees inital and 37 degrees advanced, no vacuum advance and ~10:1 compression.
What do you think could cause the problem???
Thanks in Advance!

Hmmm, I just got the same carb installed last weekend, and have noticed the same thing. Haven't figured it out yet, though. If no easy answer, I'm inclined to live with it rather than adjust it for the hot condition and then suffer low idle when not so hot.

thats so weird eh, so its not just mine then. One thing ive noticed was that When I run 94 octane fuel, my car runs way too rich and bogs down all the time, even stalls and the idle gets messed up but when im running 91 octane (lowest I can go without pinging) it runs fine and the idle doesn't seem to mess up as much.

Out of curiosity, what intake-to-carb gasket did you use? I had to use a standard thin paper gasket, rather than the "normal" thick q-jet gasket due to stud length. Wonder if that's affecting something.

Re: Weird Idle when hot
Im just using a standard thin gasket, (it was for an older cadillac v8 engine, with a spreadbore carb, it was an exact match for the carb) and im using it because the carb studs weren't long enough.

Sounds familiar, except my gasket came in the rebuild kit.
Kinda makes me wonder if that's contributing to the condition.

Well whatever it is, it got a lot worse for me, now its revving at 2500 rpm at idle (park) and 2000 rpm(drive). I have no idea what's going on. One thing i did find out was that if i give it gas and rev the thing hard it will come down in rpm.
hey just curious, what jets are you running for ur engine and what cc shooters do you have?

k I might have found the problem, but im not too sure. The accelerator pump arm on the primary side was sticking when i gave it gas. It just held there, so im not sure, is there a way to back it off a bit so the throttle arm that touches the accelerator pump arm is just slightly touching it?

It's supposed to be adjusted so that you have about .015" gap at WOT between the pump lever and the spring bolt.
I'm running stock as-delivered jets & squirters.
