Mixture control solenoid on non ECM vehicle?
This carb is off a 1986 van, it has no TPS, but does have the mixture control solenoid. I want to put it on my 82 truck which does not have this solenoid. Will it work properly? Can I just hook up 12 volts to it and make it work? If I cant do either of these, can I trade the upper carb plates out for the one off my 82 to this carb body?
My 82 has badly worn throttle shafts on the lower part of the body. I found this carb cheap and thought Id give it a try.

That's for a 2-stage accelerator pump. It should be attached to a thermal switch.

Ummm. No
Its a Mixture Control Solenoid.
Its attached to the primary metering rods and pulses them in and out according to the required fuel needed. The ECM does this. There is a preset (limp-mode) for them under a ECM failure condition.
The accelerator pump is housed on the opposite side and is under that lever which activates that plunger. The plug in front of it is the TPS switch and tells the ECM the throttle position.
The E4ME (aka: ComputerControlledCarb/Q-Jet) is a step GM made to makle the carb more fuel effecient and precise. It helped a little and was a pretty much fail-resistant setup. But tuning of them is about the same as an older non-E Q-Jet.

And yes, you can easily remove the base plate and swap them.

It's not a CC carb, so it's not a MCS.
Leaving it unplugged won't hurt anything. Whether the base will swap over to your '82 is hard to say. Sometimes it's just a little detail that keeps them from being interchangeable.

Yeah, it's for a 2-stage accelerator pump. MC solenoid plugs look almost idntical but they're blue. The 2-stage plugs are white.
Absence of a TPS plug or an IAB screw also shows that's not a computer controlled plug.
Carb is probably off a truck.

100% certainty that it is a Dual Capacity Accelerator pump solenoid. It was operated off of a thermal electric switch in the thermostat housing.

You need to brush up on your TRUCK Q-Jet information. It is NOT A MIXTURE CONTROL SOLENOID, PERIOD, END OF STORY! I have built MANY of these carbs, it is a dual capacity accelerator pump solenoid. This cuts the accelerator pump shot roughly in 1/2 when the engines coolant hits 125*F, reducing emissions.

Well I tried it and for whatever reason it was shooting gas out the top of the carb and would not start. I traded base plates with my original carb and after a few tries it started right up and ran smoother than before.

Glad it worked out for you.
The float was probably stuck when you tried the van carb. Water under the bridge now, I suppose.

Re: What is this plug on 86 Q-jet?
I figured it was, who knows how long it sat. When I went carb hunting, I picked vans as my primary target because they keep the carb hidden from the elements rather well. Lucky for me I found this fairly new looking one with "Holley remanufactured" sticker on the side. All I really needed was the base plate because my throttle shafts where very worn.
