dunno what the prob is

Ok so i bought a 670 cfm street avenger elec choke for my 350 sbc camaro. Installed today got her up and running. Question is my car is ideling at about 1.5 rpm when in park dunno if that matters but anywho, when i shut the car off and open the flap on top of the carb a lil bit of white smoke comes out- does that mean anything? I swapped from a rochester q-jet and it wasnt doing that before the swap. Maybe carb needs more tuning?

Re: dunno what the prob is

1500 RPM for idle is a touch high.

Have you tried adjusting the idle speed screw?

The white smoke may be a sign of being too rich. There is likely an excess
of fuel pooling in the intake manifold upon shut off.

Have you done the basic float adjusts, and idle mix settings?

What distributor are you using?

Why did you change the carb? 9 times out of 10, a SA is going to be a downgrade from the stock q-jet.

Re: dunno what the prob is

well the reason i changed was because the old one had computer hook ups, and i didnt have them any longer. Since the guy i bought it from has bypassed anything that uses a computer. And I believe i have an HEI distributer
----------
is their a store that can tune it? And how much does that cost?

Need more info. There are a lot of different distributors called "HEI". Does yours have vacuum and mechanical advance?

Probably not a store, maybe a shop. But, if it doesn't have the right type of distributor, they won't be able to do much.

1.5 is okay, 1000 RPMs is still a little high for a stock engine.

Go back to the basics. Like lukn4trbl said, adjust or make sure the adjustment is proper for the float levels and idle mixture. I'd add ignition timing to that. There is a sticky in the top section of this forum about the fine points of Holley adjustments - take a look at that and see if that clears up the issue for you.

If you have the right distributor (sounds like you do), a shop that is comfortable working on carb engines (becoming more rare these days) should be able to check all of that for you. Or, read the information available here and give it a shot yourself.

Re: dunno what the prob is

the idel on yer car shold be set to around 1000-900 rpm at idel, and 550-650 in gear assuming you have a A/T. and make sure you check yer float level like previously said.
