Adding performance
I'm thinking about adding an edelbrock performer air gap intake and a holley 750 double pumper to my stock 305 h.o. motor. I was wondering if anyone has tried this or might know whether or not these changes would improve performance or output. Thanks

Don't do it! The 750DP is way too much for a stock 305 and the Air Gap is probably not the best choice...yet. The camshaft and the cylinder heads are holding you back now (assuming you have headers and a good exhaust). Put a regular performer on and get the Quadrajet running good.

Need more info - simply stating 305 isn't enough, What year?, what transmission?, what induction now?, headers? any other mods already done?

This is where it gets fun. What is the story on the engine... original? Mileage? Use oil? Burn oil? This is your foundation if looking to drop heads on and stab a cam in so make sure it is in good shape before spending the cash.
Aside from that the largest carb I would recommend for a 305 street motor is a 650. Auto I would do VS, stick DP.

It's a 1985 305 h.o. motor. It's got a t5 tranny, 3.73 gers, and it's got 107,000 miles on it. There are no mods done to it at this point. It burns oil. No headers yet but im planning on slapping on a set of hooker black super comp headers.
So far my plans are; the headers, a new holley carb and edelbrock intake. ( Im not a fan qjet carbs). After that i'd like to throw on a new set of heads, a cam, and an msd ignition.
I want to make as much power out of this motor without using a stroker kit, turbo or supercharger.

Probably not what you want to hear, but if it's burning oil, you might consider your parts wisely and stick to items that will transfer to a 350. Emissions is going to be an issue as well - you need to check with local laws on that. As mentioned, 750 carb is too big, 650 max for a 305. You'll need a non-cc distributor (HEI) to change carbs.

Yeah. your right about the 650. Don't know what i was thinking. I think the oil burning problems just has to do with the valve guides. hopefully that can be solved with the new heads. I'm saying throw emissions out the door for this post. not a concern of mine

Before I spent any money I would perform a compression check on all holes as well as a leakdown test. Ensure the bottom end is at least stable before you add better heads/cam/carb and start ringing it out.
