83 z28 l69
Just picked up this car over the weekend with 60k on it. The previous owner used it for drag racing. He had a different engine and tranny in it at the time. He put it back to stock except for one thing, the carb. It has a edlebrock on it and I would like to go back to a q jet. The more I research the more confused I get. I know it is computer controlled but not sure on the choke. Is it electronic or hot air? I contacted jegs and they say it is a climatic choke. Thanks

All computer-controlled (stock) carbs are electric choke.
So, ultimately, it doesn't matter which is "better"...

Yup, you referenced my Tech & Resto post on another site. I initially created this on NECF and utilized GM Dealer Service Parts books for all of the info. Member

Re: 83 z28 l69
those q-jets are great carbs IMO, i would honestly call jegs and get a jet stage 2 q-jet if it were me, i had a 84 L69 back in high scholl and loved playing with that car, she responded very well to carb mods, the best one i recall was loosing the secondary spring on the back pass side of the carb to get them to snap open faster. if my current 84 came with the L69 i wouldnt be going lsx, just really enjoyed my experience with that engine!

Re: 83 z28 l69
Agreed... the Qjet was the best "real street" carb ever created. The E4ME was just the logical evolution and gets waaaayy better mileage than the TBI system that replaced it, provided you arent heavy into the secondaries all the time.

Just so you know, you need a computer type distributor to run the E4ME as well. If the car has an Edelbrock carb on it right now, most likely it has a non-computer mechanical/vacuum advance distributor on it as well.
Hopefully the computer, harness, and sensors are all there. If not, you're better off getting a non-computer q-jet to put on it (assuming you don't want to run the Edelbrock).
By the way, what intake manifold is on it? An Edelbrock won't bolt (directly) to a stock intake, and a q-jet won't bolt (directly) to a square-bore pattern aftermarket intake. Some aftermarket intakes can accept either a square-bore or spread-bore carb.

Not sure, just bought the car and basically drove it around 100 miles and then into storage. The dual snorkel seems to sit a little high, adapter plate from spread to square bore? I just purchased a lt1 and t56 that I want to install. That is a little ways out. I want to return to the stock drivetrain and color in the mean time.
