want to switch to aftermarket carb for my 82 Recaro with 4 speed.
I have an 82 TA Recaro that I have owned since new. It is getting "restored" but I want to replace the Quadrajet with a different carburetor if it gives me problems when I restart the engine. Where I live, antique cars do not have an emissions requirement nor do they need the original emissions equipment. I am looking for advice on which aftermarket carburetor will be best and most reliable. I also have a 1982 Avanti II with the same engine. The quadrajet carburetor in the Avanti is not operating properly and the rear "jets" do not open at all. Both currently have ECM controls connected to the carburetor. When the TA was taken out of service for restoration, the engine and tranny were removed and gone through and it is now going back together. All of the air pump stuff was removed years ago and the engine was running fine when pulled. I am anticipating that I will have problems when it is restarted and since it will be going to my grandson, I want it as reliable as possible. My thoughts are to replace the carburetor on the Avanti II which is the same and is not working correctly. Learn from it and if necessary do the same on the TA
I would like to know best carburetor replacement that is not an ECM controlled Quadrajet. Thanks, Dan

Here is an article about an upgrade to a 1976 Chevy 305:

They used this intake manifold from summit racing:
SUM-226012
And this carb:
SUM-M08600VS

Anyway, did you have your recaro seats refurbished? If so, who did you use? I’d like to get my recaros recovered one day.

Either a Q-Jet, or a Holley 6210.
NOT an Edlebrock, or a square-flange Holley like 1850 or 3310.

And incidentally, if you change to anything other than a computer-controlled Q-Jet, you'll also need a new distributor; one with vacuum advance.
