In need of assistance
So my top from topsonline just came in today. So I do what we all would do, and I go lay the top over my existing top and I'm just not sure the damn thing is gonna fit. My top that's on the car measured 51 so that's what I ordered. But the rear bow just seems to be a different shape by just a little. Or maybe the canvas on the car isn't original. I'll post some pics of what I'm looking at in a few. But in the mean time anyone have a pic of the orginal tops on a 89 iroc. I am gonna try to figure out if I have an orginal top on the car.

Re: In need of assistance
New top layer over old. I know these things stretch and I know it's cold out where I live. But damn.

It may be just me but it don't seem wide enough over the windows and around the 5th bow. Am I worried about nothing? I know I can't try to put it on anytime soon ( to cold out and no heated garage), but the wife want to get it for me for Christmas. So I ordered early, and pretty sure they won't Take it back if it didn't fit after 30 days or something.
Help? Anyone that has put one on?

Re: In need of assistance
I just put mine on from Topsonline, and really it looked pretty similar. The sides did not seem to line up right. I could get it perfect on one side, but not the other.
The thing you have to think about is the top is over another top, and there is stretching involved. When you put in your side tension cables down the outer edges of the windows it will help them look right in place.
Just make sure you get it centered in the rear bow when you first start glueing it down, that will determine how well the rest of the fit is, and help reduce pulling on the sides to get "even".
Your gonna love it
Hope you bought the inner fabric (can't remember the name) that runs under the top, and down the sail panels. Mine were brittle and torn with a breeze of wind.

Um... don't think so. I haven't taken many pics since the top was done with it up, just some further away pics.
Re: In need of assistance
It looks right to me... your suppose to leave the top out of the box for about 1 day before you even start to stretch/install it. The only way you will know forsure is when you take that old top off the car!!

Looks like you have the original top. the stitching is white on the original top. the new ones have black stitching. You have to work from the rear of the top forward top the front edge and wrap it around and glue it down. good luck!

Re: In need of assistance
I just want to mention if i remember correctly (and read here) that ASC changed the top size (larger) in later year GM 3rd gen conversions.
Can anyone confirm this? (looking for the old posts on this)
Heres some in info from okfoz:
Basically you could classify 1985 - 1988 Camaros and 1986 -1988 Firebirds as type 1, and 1989 - 1992 type two with some variations.
1985 - 1988
(Mid 1988) Included the little extension on the doors,
Narrower top,
different latch system
Windshield header garnish type 1
Bow garnish type 1
(mid 1988) stopped using the "Rear Quarter" cap extensions on the doors
1989
Windshield header garnish type 2
Unique Bow#1 Garnish
Wide Top
Addition of back seat shoulder harness (attached to tonneau)
1990 - Mid 1991
Windshield Header Garnish Type 2
Bow #1 Garnish Type 3
Wide Top
Included headliner
back seat shoulder harness (attached to tonneau)
Mid 1991 thru 1992 (all 1991 & 1992 Firebird)
(Same as 1990 except the following)
Rear compartment change, the modified Coupe inner plastics were dropped for a all material & cardboard style. mid year for Camaro.
1992 only note: Modified back seat shoulder harness (no longer attached to tonneau)
