Re: weight?

My invoiced shipping weight shows as 3530 lbs. Pretty close to the car that was taken to a scale. Mine is a 5L-5 speed. The door placard says 4266 lbs. Obviously the convertibles weigh less by about 700 lbs. and the door placard shows the manufactured weight prior to convertible conversion.

That's probably gross vehicle weight, the maximum loaded safe weight declared by the manufacturer, including passengers, luggage and fuel. Almost all convertibles weigh more than their hard top equivalent because of extra bracing needed to keep the chassis stiff enough to be safe to drive after losing the roof structure along with in some cases the weight of mechanical and electrical support of a convertible top.

Re: weight?

According to Specifications

1990
- Camaro Coupe - 3107
- Camaro Convertible - 3348

1991
- Camaro 2-Door 3103
- Camaro Convertible 3343
- Firebird 2 Door 3121
- Firebird Convertible - No Data

1992
- Camaro 2-Door 3,105#
- Camaro Convertible 3,220#
- Firebird 2 Door 3,146#
- Firebird Convertible 3,280#

Conclusion: Convertibles weigh about 120-220# more

This supports my theory that the Firebird did not get a convertible until 1991 because of weight. Heck in 1987 the GTA with a 350 could not get the rear shade or the subwoofer option because of weight.
