No Air Blowing Thru Vents
No Air Blowing Thru Vents
hey, this will sound like a dumb question, but i couldn't find anything useful by doin a search. my problem is: there is no air blowing thru any of the vents. doesn't matter what setting i'm on, same with fan speed & temperature. when the ac/heat temperature is set all the way to hot, i can feel hot air in the vents, it's just not blowing anywhere. i pulled the ac/heat control panel & tested the switches with a meter and it looked ok. sometimes when i'm driving, the vents will start blowing, but only for a few seconds. i can't figure this one out & i don't know what to test. please help!
perhaps it is a blown fuse? can u hear the blower turning on? did u feel the defrost vents and the lower floor vents also to see if there is anything blowing out there? the air has to be blowing out somewhere. or the blower motor is broken..
nope, no blown fuse, and i think i hear the blower motor turning on, but i'm not sure. when i'm driving on the highway, it usually starts lightly blowing thru the vents (i have it set on 'bi-lev'), then shuts off after a minute or so. any ideas? could it be a switch/electrical problem - and is there any way i can test the blower motor?

having same problem
hey man my 87 trans am doin same thing.. i believe it to be these little diaphram looking things by the heater core .. i think they open a panel to let air flow thru vents. i think this because mine works half the time so it may be sticking.... also when it doesn't work, it still blows thru the top by the windsheild....

well it's not under the dash... do you know where the heater core is???? well on passenger side you gotta take off those panels and in there is the heater core and those diaphram lookin things... they look sorta like little EGR's...but if it's not commin thru the top i would definately say blower motor....turn the motor on and open the hood and put your head next to it and see if it's on or sounds like crap...
when i look in the hood compartment, i'm looking toward the left rear for the motor right? well, the motor is cheap enough from auto zone. but how hard is it to put in? i have A/C & the system is fully charged. will i have to evacuate the system before i remove the old motor?

you shouldnt have to evac the system to install a blower, just unhook the hold one unbolt it, I think it has 3 or four small bolts or screws that hold it in, and put the new one in its place....havent done this in a long time, so you might want to consult a manual to be sure.
anybody know any details about the blower motor? i'm gonna try to test the voltage when i have the heater switch on to see if the motor's even running. do you guys know where the + terminal of the motor is?
also, other car repair sites referenced a "heater speed resistor" as a common fix to my problem. tonight i'm gonna doublecheck the coolant, vaccuum lines, fuses, and blower motor voltage, but does anyone know about the heater speed resistor?

Ok lets start over. does any air come out of any vents in the car like the defroster or heater ones at the floor? If so how hard does it come out? Another question is does it work on any speeds at all like just on high or any other speeds? Im just trying to get all the info I can here I had some problems with my car on this too and the HVAC system on an a third gen isnt all that difficult to figure out where the problem is.
You can connect power directly to the blower to test it. If you don't hear it start blowing when you turn it on, then it's not coming on. If you do, try moving the hot/cold lever around-it should have a slight resistance because you're operating a door behind the heater core. If it doesn't, you need to remove the kick panel on the passenger side and see why.
blower motor's getting power & it used to work intermittently, so looks like i got a bad motor on my hands. on the downside - when i was under the hood i found a coolant leak & one of my cooling fans went out
thanks for your help fellas
