pulley to electric fan?

i went ahead and bought an electric fan set up from someone on here from an 89 or 91 rs recently for my 84 z28..everytime i look up info on how to do the swap i end up reading about switching to a serpentine set up..is this something that i have to do to make this swap work? i dont know a whole lot but it doesnt make sense to me that this would be needed. if i had to make the fan with a manual switch i would do that but im hoping not. anyone got any more info on this? or at least point me in the right direction? thanks.

Re: pulley to electric fan?

Not much to it, take off the mechanical fan, clutch and shroud, install the electric fan and shroud, and wire it up.

Re: pulley to electric fan?

get on summit racing or even E-bay and search for electric fan kits. No need to do it with a manual switch, the kits are pretty cheap.

Re: pulley to electric fan?

you dont need a fan wiring kit unless you want to have adjustable fan control. all you need is a 4 wire spdt relay and a fan switch with on/off temps of your choice and a lil bit of wiring knowledge. fan switches range from $5 - $30, and the relay should be about $5

Re: pulley to electric fan?

its just a low buck adjustable fan control. it personal preferance as to if you want adjustable control or not and how much you want to spend for bell and whistles you can get with the higher dollar ones.

Re: pulley to electric fan?

and btw, thats just an adjustable on off switch, you still need a relay and you have to wire it in your self.

Re: pulley to electric fan?

When I swapped to a single electric fan in my 84 TA I used this fan controller from autozone.

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...er=326161_0_0_

It has been trouble free from day 1. I originally used a stock fan switch wired with a relay. Problem is this that stock switch was to high of a temp. for my motor. After some searching, I found that for the price for the adjustable fan controller was the same price as a decent hypertech switch and I had complete control of my on and off temps.
