what type sealant for t-stat water neck?

does it really matter what type sealant i use on the t-stat water neck? i don't even have 100 miles on this top-end rebuild and am already having to reseal it. granted, the surfaces ain't perfect anymore, so in addition to the gasket, i use sealant on both sides of it to compensate for the pits, etc. in the mounting surfaces. i think i used the black rtv last time and the gasket i use also has an integrated "o-ring" type seal in it, so should help seal a little more. if someone knows a more reliable sealant, please advise. thx, as always.

Any of the typical RTV silicone gasket makers should do the job.
I've found that putting the parts together only finger tight and waiting about an hour before final torque goes a long way towards a leak free seal. Some manufacturers list that as their standard procedure.
We've also been experimenting with Permatex' "The Right Stuff" with very good results. It's said that you can forgoe the hour wait with this newer product too.

Chinesium......classic! (I actually did just that when mine wouldn't seal up. New one is nice and shiny too.)

sounds good to all... for now will try the re-seal effort but if it happens again in the (too) near future, then will go for the replacement. thx...

I use permatex gasket maker on just about everything especially water stuff. I used it to adhere my taurus fan to my radiator and it is STUCK.
