A/C Delete Box Differences?

Forgive me if this has been addressed, but I looked through like 30 threads and couldn't find this answer. The pictures below are aftermarket fiberglass a/c delete boxes that accept the a/c blower motor fan. The first one shows a large raised triangle on right side mounting flange and the other does not have this. I noticed that the factory boxes seem to have this large triangle. What is this difference? I also found a seller with new gaskets that fit the "triangle" box.
I would be installing this in an 82 Trans Am and want to make sure I'm getting the right one if it matters. Thanks for the help!

Raised triangle mounting flange:

No raised triangle:

Nevermind.... I was looking at the wrong triangle.

FWIW....

1986 Assy Manual shows the black box configuration. I can't comment on whether or not this was the correct configuration throughout the 3rd Gen production.

I used the second one on my 89 camaro. It fit good. I used double sided weather stripping for the gasket. I used RTV for the blower motor and resistor gasket.

Thanks for the input on that one! That's the one I'm leaning towards because I like the look of it, but if I need the other one, I'll live with the look I guess. I just can't imagine a triangular shaped cut out in the firewall, but I could be wrong. I have an 82 Trans Am and an 89 Firebird, both A/C cars and the firewalls look the same to me. I've had the a/c box out of the 82 before when I was painting the firewall, but for the life of me don't remember a hole that high.

Thanks for the heads up on that one. It does say fits a/c blower motor in the auction. That same box is also for sale from a US seller as well which is where I got the picture.

According to those pictures, looks like there could be a bolt at the top of that triangle, which means the other box would leave this exposed hole I guess if that's the case.

Here is the link to the thread I made about the heater box I bought. Has pics also.

Here are pics of it installed. I have since remove it and painted it black to match the firewall.

Re: A/C Delete Box Differences?

Im not 100% sure, but I know in the past when I have deleted A/C in past vehicles; 77 Monte Carlo, 77 Corvette, 72 Malibu, 70 Malibu, 69 Malibu, 68 Chevelle SS, the firewall is cut differently between a factory A/C and factory non A/C cars, they require a different box than what a factory non A/C car would have taken.

Well, I can't see the pics I guess because I'm not registered on fquick. It just goes to the main website for me.

Maybe it's a contour thing, as it appears that your firewall is triangular in that area or am I seeing things?
